Which direction do you go?
North.
“We need to get moving.” You warn, “If they open the trapdoor and see the torch we are done for.”
“I guess.” Saqira looks around nervously.
“What do you know about this place?” You ask, noting your companion's hesitation.
“Only from rumor.” The Nubian beauty anxiously moves close to you. “That the witch Bizia built a labyrinth to torture her victims for her amusement. I have heard it contains traps, dangers and something most dreadful that stalks its halls looking for flesh to eat, whether alive or carrion.”
“Is there a way out?”
“I believe so, though it is probably a long shot to find.” Saqira worries. “Bizia loves wagers, so it would be like her to allow for some sort of hope, in order to squash it in most for her sick pleasure.”
Putting your hand on Saqira's arm you try to comfort her. “Don't worry, there are two of us, and we have a torch and a dagger, things Bizia didn't count on. If you give me the torch I will lead the way, but keep your knife at ready.”
The Nubian nods appreciatively and gives you the torch, deferring to your leadership.
“I didn't have time before,” You add, “to thank you for my rescue. Know that I am grateful and I promise that you will see Rome.”
Talking Saqira by the hand you head down the north passage, traveling about 500 feet until the passage ends in a east/west fork.
Do you go east, west or return to the south?
