Accounting for the filth
The two girls sat on either side of Melly’s room. She had a roommate, and so half of it was her space, the other half belonging to Alina. Alina was studious and committed to her girlfriend, so she was almost never home. Rachel sat on Alina’s bed and Melly on her own.
“So… which one did she see?” Melly asked. She was always pale, but now she was so white that even her freckles looked bleached.
“Ones,” Rachel emphasized.
Melly pressed her hands against her face. “Fuck,” she said, muffled. She lifted her head again. “Any chance your mom is the cool, sex positive type?”
“I think there’s a limit to the ‘cool, sex positive type,’ and we’re over it.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
“Okay. … fuck.”
“I know. Okay. Okay. I think what we have to do is…” Rachel’s mind raced. “We need to figure out exactly what’s out there. You know what happened with Leo.”
Melly scrunched up her nose. She hadn’t liked Leo. He was good in bed, but that was all she had to say about him. “I can’t believe you kept having sex with him after that.”
Rachel went red. “I know,” she squeaked. “Clearly I should’ve listened to you. If we can get him on the phone maybe we can figure out if he’s shown anyone else. From what Walt was saying it sounded like he was listening, but I don’t know. And then… if there’s anyone else, we… I don’t know. We bash their skulls in with a rock.”
“Yeah, I don’t have payoff money.”
“I thought your dad was rich!”
“My dad is rich. He’s not going to give me $10K so I can get my underwear back from Dr. Fleming.”
Rachel looked at her. Suddenly she was smiling again. “Oh my God, you hooked up with Dr. Fleming?” she gushed.
