Chapter 3 by JustSpirit JustSpirit

Use the coin now to make a small wish about Sarah not commenting negatively your work devotion

You slide your hand into your pocket, feeling the warm metal of the coin against your fingertips. Looking at Sarah, who's still enjoying her ice cream, you carefully extract the coin and hold it concealed in your palm. Her comment about you always being in work mode stings slightly—it's a recurring theme in your conversations lately.

While Sarah glances away to watch a dog chasing a frisbee, you rub your thumb across her profile on the coin's surface. The metal warms instantly under your touch, almost uncomfortably so.

"I wish Sarah wouldn't make negative comments about my work dedication," you whisper, barely audible even to yourself.

The coin pulses once with heat, then goes cold so suddenly you nearly drop it. A strange sensation ripples through the air between you and Sarah, like an invisible current flowing from the coin to her. She blinks rapidly several times, shaking her head slightly as if clearing her thoughts.

"You okay?" you ask, quickly returning the coin to your pocket.

"Just felt strange for a second," she replies, rubbing her temple. "Like a little brain freeze, but I haven't eaten my ice cream that quickly."

You study her face carefully, wondering if anything has changed. She looks exactly the same—same laugh lines around her eyes, same summer freckles across her nose. The physical Sarah remains untouched.

"So," you venture carefully, "I was thinking about that Anderson campaign presentation on Monday. Might need to review my notes tonight."

You wait for the familiar sigh or gentle admonishment about bringing work into your weekend together. Instead, Sarah nods thoughtfully.

"That's the beauty products one, right? The one you've been excited about?" She takes another lick of her ice cream. "You know, I was thinking—maybe we could do dinner somewhere nice after your presentation. Celebrate all your hard work."

The response catches you off guard. No eye roll, no comment about your workaholic tendencies. Instead, she seems genuinely supportive in a way that feels... different.

"That...sounds great," you say, trying to process the change. "I thought you might be annoyed about me working on the weekend."

Sarah tilts her head, looking genuinely confused. "Why would I be? Your dedication to your work is one of your strengths, Michael. Always has been."

She says this with such conviction that you almost believe she's always felt this way. The coin's magic seems subtle but profound—not changing her personality entirely, but shifting her perspective on this particular aspect of your relationship.

"Besides," she continues, finishing her ice cream cone, "you've always supported my interests. It would be hypocritical of me not to do the same."

You nod slowly, experiencing a complex mixture of emotions—relief at the absence of tension, guilt at manipulating her thoughts, and unease at how seamlessly the change has occurred. This small alteration feels both insignificant and monumental simultaneously.

"Thank you," you say, meaning it more than she could possibly understand.

Sarah smiles warmly, reaching over to squeeze your hand. "Nothing to thank me for. That's what partners do." She glances at her watch. "Should we walk around the lake before heading home? It's such a beautiful afternoon."

As you stand up together, you feel the weight of the coin in your pocket—lighter now, but somehow more significant than before. You've crossed a threshold, used its power. The question lingers in your mind: what else might you change?
