It's you, and you know it

"I'll call you on that one!" Says Kate, in response to Rachel's raise, and then they both turn to look at you.

"Nah, I'm staying put." You tell them, with another look at your silly pair of three's. "First one's on me, ladies."

"Fair enough." Rachel just smiles at you, and then puts down a pair of kings. "I guess this one is Kate's though..."

"Aww, I thought you had lower!" Kate sighs, and show her a pair of jacks. "I guess you're just getting used to having all those houses on your hand."

"Well, I wasn't expecting that!" Your housemate admits, and then start shuffling the cards before turning her eyes back at you. Considering how much she seems to be thinking about it, you're quite surprised when the question comes out about as simple as it gets - allthough there is that familiar tone to her voice again, just when she makes for a theatrical pause. "What's your favourite... food, John?"

"Well, that's an easy one." You say, while pretending you didn't notice the silent part. Quite obviously, it was a promise, or threat, that the next one may not be quite as simple. "Would it suffice if I say 'fried chicken'?"

"So you're into birds, alright...?" Rachel flashes you one of those grins again, seemingly intent on quite literally making hens out of feathers today. "You couldn't be any more specific though? Like, what parts do you like best...?"

"Fillets, if you have to know..." You tell her, and notice both girls smiling at the much more subtle pun. "The less to peel away, the better...!"

"I'll remember that!" She smiles, while starting to hand out the cards again, and then gives a quick wink at Kate. "See? I still think clothes would've been funnier!"

"Not on my watch!" The blonde snorts at her, though you can tell the thoughts amuses her at least. If you ever get a question in on one of them, you'll have to ask about this last time they were playing something like this...

It's not likely to be your turn this game either though, as you can see both girls pretending like they've got crap again, while your own pair of seven's doesn't really stand out at all. Well, it's better than nothing at least, and so is the ace you decide to keep as well...
