I sat there a bit stunned, with all kinds of questions swirling through my head. How did they get my details? I mean, I did sign up on a few questionable adult sites recently—could it be from that? That might explain the line about them "noticing my online activities."

But the biggest question was whether this email could be genuine or just an elaborate scam. Then again, they already had my name and other information, so I figured there was no harm in replying. Bored that evening, I started packing and texted my friends, telling them I’d be on "vacation" in Sweden for a month and might be hard to reach. Not knowing what weather to expect, I threw a bit of everything into my suitcase since the experiment site was apparently in the Alps.

She led me a few meters down the street to a large map showing the entire town, with color-coded zones for the different houses. She explained what each area was for and gave me a few minutes to look it over.

“Well, Leon, it was really interesting to read your questionnaire—you’ve shown a lot of enthusiasm, so everything you signed up for will come into play during your time here. But for now, we’ve assigned you to House No. 42…”
