Shocked

Melissa’s mom’s face froze in a look of total shock as her daughter’s words were understood. Melissa had been made pregnant by another woman, no more than a woman. Melissa’s mom shook her head and then stood up backing out of the room. She could see Melissa looking at her with confusion and sadness.

“Mom please don’t leave.” Melissa pleaded.

“Honey I’m sorry I just need some time.” Melissa watched as her mom left the room and she began to cry hoping that her mother was not mad at her or disappointed in her.

While she buried her face in her pillow, her mom left the house and jumped in her car. At first Melissa’s mom did not know where she was going but then found herself driving to her daughter’s college. Melissa’s mom wanted to confront Helda about impregnating her daughter. The drive was a blur and Melissa’s mom found herself parked in front of the building with the counseling office and inside where she was quickly ushered to Helda’s office.

“Hello, I’m Helda.” Helda said extending her hand to Melissa’s mom, not sure who she was meeting.

“I’m Sandra, Melissa’s mom. I believe you have met with her several times.” Melissa’s mom said refusing to shake Helda’s hand and glaring at the counselor.

Helda nodded and gestured for Melissa’s mom to come inside and sit down. She then closed the door. “I hope you don’t mind but I am thinking that this conversation should be private.” Helda then walked over and sat down next to Melissa’s mom. “Now Sandra, I don’t know how to start.” Helda said as she took Melissa’s mom’s hands in her own.
