Part Six

Waking up with a happy and excited feeling she had not felt in a while, Sara got up from bed and got ready for the day ahead, all the while thinking about kissing Mason last night at the bonfire and all the kisses that came after.

Making her way downstairs where she found her family and Asa already talking amongst themselves as her grandmother and Aunt Megan, shuffled around the kitchen area, cooking for everyone and everyone eating whatever the pair had cooked up for breakfast, Sara quietly sat down at the table opposite Asa and next to Anneliese, hoping to avoid the inevitable teasing of her younger sister however it seemed Anneliese was not the one that she had to worry about.

"Looks like someone had a really good night," Asa commented upon seeing Sara and her face which had been brightly lit up, clearly because of how happy she was feeling.

"Seriously?" Sara said rolling her eyes at her best friend.

"Just pointing out the obvious," Asa shrugged. "You didn't want to leave lover boy alone."

"Sorry," Sara apologised while looking at the blonde. "I shouldn't be... I should be focusing on you. Not chasing some guy who broke my heart three years ago..."

"I'm fine," Asa responded, causing Sara to give her a look that said that she didn't believe her. "Really, I am."

"I'll say," Anneliese commented. "After she talked to me and Molly about MaSara, she had her tongue down Shannon Lysette's throat, half an hour later."

"Wanna tell me more about that?" Sara said curiously.

"There's nothing to tell," Asa shook her head. "After I was done talking to the kiddies," Asa continued.

"Hey!" Anneliese interrupted, causing Asa to give the slightly younger girl a smirk.

"After I was done talking to them and you were busy with lover boy,” Asa said as she got back to her conversation. "I was just hanging around ad she approached me and next thing I know we were kissing but it was definitely nothing serious. That's the last thing I need."

"I get it but at least you're moving on," Sara said to her.

"And at least you're happy," Asa responded. "All jokes aside, you look happy with Mason and he seems like a really good guy. Maybe the two of you should give each other a real chance this time."

"I dunno," Sara admitted. "I mean, we just kissed a couple of times last night. I mean it could be nothing," Sara worriedly said.

"Ha, like it could ever mean nothing between you two." Anneliese interrupted as she laughed. "You two belong together."

"Or maybe he's not looking for anything serious..." Sara said to Asa as she attempted to ignore her sister's comments.

"Or maybe he is, Sara," Asa pointed. "Sometimes you have to take that gamble and find out even if it means getting hurt. Trust me, I know."

Mason rolled over in bed that morning, his mind racing as he kept replaying the memory of Sara's soft lips on his from the bonfire last night. Eventually though, realising he couldn’t stay in bed all day, Mason climbed out, had a shower and got dressed before making his way downstairs where he found his parents, grandparents and even more to his surprise, Molly already up and having breakfast and chatting away amongst each other.

"Morning, Mason," Molly said, happily upon seeing Mason as she scrolled through her social media feed on the Pulse.

"You seem oddly happy this morning," Mason responded to his sister who usually seemed annoyed every morning.

"Oh, just the usual. You know, breakfast with the fam." Molly shrugged.

"Mason, dear, come sit down. I've got your favourite, scrambled eggs with cheese and crispy bacon." Marge told her grandson who nodded and took a seat opposite Molly.

"How was the bonfire last night?" Benny asked his grandson.

"It was fine," Mason replied, trying not to give anything away. "Just a hung out with."

"Did anything interesting happen?" Meredith wondered. “Something usually goes down at the bonfire.”

"Nah, just the usual bonfire stuff," Mason mumbled as he began to eat and avoid Molly’s smirking gaze.

"Yeah, nothing happened except Mason kissing Sara," Molly teasingly revealed.

"Molly!" Mason said in annoyance at how easily his sister was able to spill his secrets.

“What?" Molly said feigning innocence. "It's not like it's a secret. Everyone saw you two under the stars, making googly eyes at each other and doing things friends shouldn’t be doing."

"Molly, seriously?" Mason said in disbelief before trying to reassure his parents. “It was just a kiss. Nothing else, I swear.”

“We believe you, Mason,” Allen reassured his son before adding on. "You finally kissed Sara, huh?"

"Yeah, it just kind of happened." Mason nodded.

"Well, congratulations," Meredith said with a smile. "We all knew it was only a matter of time. All those summers seeing you two with each other."

"We've always liked Sara," Marge said happily, causing Mason to feel surprised by everyone’s lack of surprise at the possibility of something developing between him and Sara. "Such a sweet girl and her family are good people too. You couldn't get together with anyone better."

"We're not actually together yet. We just kissed," Mason mumbled.

"Well, it's a start," Allen said with a knowing smile. "But you know we've always seen something between you two. Ever since you were kids playing out in the woods. It’s about time you two did something about it."

"Thanks," Mason murmured. "But, I just don't know if she feels the same way,"

Meredith sat down next to him, placing a gentle hand on his arm.

"Mason, you've been friends with Sara for as long as I can remember. If that kiss was anything to go by, I'd say she's pretty into you too." Meredith told her son.

"You think so?" Mason asked.

"You just have to talk to her, Mason,” Meredith nodded. “Communication is key in any relationship."

"I know, I just don't want to mess things up," Mason admitted.

"Oh, please," Molly said, rolling her eyes. "Knowing you, you probably will but who cares. You just need to man up and ask her out already."

"I hate to say it but I think you should listen to Molly on this one, Mason," Meredith said. "She's actually right for once."

"I do have my moments," Molly said, proudly.

"Well, there’s a first time for everything," Mason mumbled as his thoughts went to Sara and what she might say if he told her how he felt.
