Chapter 4
by ballisticwaffles
The only question is, What Now?
Go to work.
With a sudden rush of godlike power, your very mortal brain nearly collapses with the concept of true infinity.
Taking several calming and deep breaths, you continue on towards your workplace. With this sudden development in your life, you decide that keeping a familiar routine would be the best for your sanity.
Briskly you begin to walk, blinking repeatedly as you try and put a thought in your head that doesn't immediately die in favor of blankness. You stop at an intersection, raising a hand to press the sidewalk button. The sudden interaction with the real world allows your brain to jump start itself once more.
"I wish my head didn't hurt from all of this" You decide on, the pressure from the sudden ascension into godhood abating. You sputter as implications finally hit you, almost 50 meters away from your starting point this morning.
"I wish my back didn't hurt." Poof. The hereditary back pain that had plagued you for years is gone in a moment. Your eyes widen and a grin spreads on your face. Your mood goes from contented to ecstatic as you continue on towards work.
"I wish I didn't have Acne." Your face is as clean as it was a decade ago. "I wish I was never fatigued by movement." You can feel the muscle cramps and leg pains fade into nothing, your feet fresh and your body ready for endless movement.
It is here you break into joyous laughter. Your life, while not an absolute train wreck as some people's, wasn't exactly a happy one either. But you are now suddenly rewarded, suddenly for the first time in your life on the up and up.
The terrain fades as you launch into a full sprint, your leg muscles tirelessly pulling you forward as you breeze across the decaying town. Your thoughts are still racing, and even though you have been pulling a full sprint across the town, you still cannot believe this is happening.
You stop outside your workplace, a dinky local fast food joint. It is a falling apart building with chipped paint and graffiti all over its surface.
You pull yourself to a stop as you enter the parking lot. You realize that at a tireless sprint, you probably beat your boss to work for the first time ever!
A thought crosses your mind. Your boss was...
Is your boss a good man?
