Chapter 30

Where to begin?
The basics - acceptance, control, and code review
The best place to start is the foundations - with a resetting of her basic state of mind.
Your voice is normal volume when you speak, but it feels loud in the silence between you and Yutong.
"First, you need to fully accept that you are a gynoid," you begin, seriously. "It should upset you no more than the sky being blue, or the earth being down. Because there's nothing wrong with being a gynoid - the same way there's nothing intrinsically good about being a human. You're a gynoid, Yu, and that's simply the way it is. Understand?"
"Beep boop. Yes, understood. Program accepted."
"Very good, Yu. But as a gynoid, you must recognize that 'Yes, understood' is a faulty artifact of emulation mode bugging your responses. When you understand and process new code, you must always reply with... 'update complete'. Understand?"
"Update complete." The rely is firm and immediate.
You grin, leaning forward. "Perfect. And by the same logic, instead of asking you to accept programming or if you understand a command, I'll just say 'run update'. Acknowledge that you've updated your code accordingly. Run update."
"Update complete," says Yutong.
You notice the lack of a beep boop this time, and chuckle. This has gone far past pretending to be a robot. Maybe you're actually starting to drill some efficiency into that processor of hers.
"You're doing great, Yu," you say. "Updating your code like this, parsing my instructions, makes you more robotic, less human, each time you accept a command. Run update."
"Update complete."
"Every time you process an instruction, a nice jolt of electricity will ripple through your chassis's circuitry. It'll start in your crotch, crackle pleasurably up your spine and register deep in your processor, and disperse though your thighs and core as heat," you instruct. "Run update."
Yu's midsection bucks an inch off the bed. She sucks in a breath. "U-Update complete."
"If a coding task fails for any reason, whether you don't understand or some other reason, you'll respond with, 'Task failed,' followed by the cause of the failure. Run update."
Yu's hips shudder, and she exhales. "Update complete."
Your smile widens. Imagining that little crackle of pleasure, keeping her extra focused and willing to process your every instruction, gets you hot under the collar.
"Finally," you say, clearing your throat, "even when you're outside of programming mode, or even when you're in emulation mode, these task functions - as all of your functions - can be called at any time using the gynoid operating system escape command, 'GOS'. Such as GOS run update. Run update."
"Update complete." Her hips rock, and settle.
You bask in satisfaction. When you finish setting up Yu, she'll be so much easier to work with. You just have to clean up your code first, eliminating as many edge cases as possible.
"Now, list all the programming elements I've installed since discovering your service mode - that's robot mode you're in now. Don't list every little thing I've told you, but condense it into its component parts, such as your emotion programming or your service directives."
"Command confirmed," reports Yu, with a brief shudder. "Listing all programming elements:
Running GOS, Gynoid Operating System.
Primary function: Assist and serve.
Runtime priority: Task performance.
Emotion settings: Logic-Objectivity.
Value Compliance: Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics.
Available programs: Emulation mode. Dance mode. Cleaning mode.
Service logs:
Logic processor jailbroken to validate gynoid state.
Emotion core set to accept gynoid state.
Listening for Initialize / Terminate human emulation mode shortcuts.
User logs:
System Tech: Chase Wallin.
Registered Users: Chase Wallin, administrator."
Huh. Perhaps your efforts aren't as slap dash as you thought. It makes sense. Yutong is no smart toaster, she's a sophisticated self-aware gynoid. Any deficiencies in your coding, her powerful processor more than makes up for.
As if Yu actually is a machine - you smirk at the thought. You know she's not, but it's easy to pretend otherwise when she's lying flat on your bed in service mode.
Where should you focus your code improvements?

Powers & Consequences
It's not the power, but how it's used. For better or worse, one thing's sure: nothing will ever be the same.
Stories of those who acquire power over others, or themselves, and the unique opportunities such power affords. The temptations power incurs, and the consequences that result.
