Something evil.

Out from the darkness steps a rather large man in ripped blue jeans, combat boots, a wife beater shirt, and a dirty leather jacket. His bearded face is rough with the leathery face of someone that has seen to much sun. In his right hand is a lead pipe and his left grips a length of chain that wraps around his had twice and drags the concrete as he steps into view. “What did you find in there meat? I can smell magic on you. Give it to me and I promise your **** will be painless.” He chuckles revealing pointed ugly teeth, “Well less painful.”

Pulling up the pistol you try to sound tough, “Don't take another step or I'll shoot.”

He just laughs, “Go ahead shoot. You don't even know where to aim.” He lurches forward and picks up speed letting out a growling yell as he picks up speed.

Leveling the gun you scream and fire off half the clip into him. All six bullets rip right through him and fly into the night. He just howls with a loud roar and slams the lead pipe to the ground missing you by inches as you dive backwards. Not letting up for a second he swings the chain, it hits you hard in the side and sends you flying across the ground, landing hard on your back. “Why?” You gasp, the wind knocked out of you. Lifting your head as you hear his thundering footsteps coming at you. He stomps down where your head was only a second before as you roll to the side, struggling to get away. That damnable chain strikes you next, this time catching your ankle and dragging you across the ground to him. Pulling up the pistol as he slams down with the lead pipe you take aim for his hand hoping to hit the pipe if nothing else. The bullet rips into him, strikes the pipe, the impact finally having an effect. He drops the pipe and clutches his hand momentarily stunned by the impact. “Why are you attacking me?” You ask as you turn and crawl away from him.

“Because you are meat.” He says laughing. “Meat doesn't get magic, it gets eaten.” Turning as he says this you look into his eyes and see a horrible yellow glow that seems to grow hotter as you look. His mouth distends horribly as he laughs till his mouth is open wide enough to bite off your entire head. His lips curl back and a maw rimmed with horrible teeth.

“Oh my god what are you?” You scream in panic and let four more bullets fly into his horrible maw. All he does is laugh.

He lurches forward and lashes out with the chain once again, but this time it seems alive, as if it was part of him, it slashes forward and attempts to grab you. You slap it away twice before it catches your left wrist and wraps around your arm. He hoists you off the ground, the chain impossibly floating in the air till you are staring right into his gleaming yellow eyes. “Where did you come from? How did you get here? Tell me now and I will bite your head off. If you don't I will tear you limb from limb and till you beg for ****, but I will not kill you till I have savored every last inch of your skin.” Saliva showers you as he talks, his massive maw chomping with every horrifying syllable. “Now!!” He yells at you roaring like a beast. As he does, something new sparks your vision, just a glimmer but almost as if you could see through him you see a spark of yellow glowing, just like his eyes only deeper.

Staring at it and his horrible face you summon all of your courage and fight the pain of the flesh tearing on your wrist as he holds you aloft. Raising the gun not even sure if you have any more bullets left, you take aim, trying to remember everything you have ever learned or heard about how to fire a gun, from video games, and more, trying to will the bullet to find it's mark. Your finger squeezes the trigger and sure enough the last bullet fires, time seems to slow as it leaves the barrel, the slide kicking back and locking back as the gun bucks in your slender new hand. A look of recognition hits his eyes an instant before the bullet finds it's mark, but to late, he tries to react, and he is fast but not as fast as a point blank 9mm bullet that screams out of the barrel with enough speed to rip the sound barrier. The bullet passes through his flesh once again as if he didn't exist, but this time it strikes true, the glow is struck. As it does in that instant you are free and hovering as the magic is rent asunder and his form seems to both explode and implode at the same time. A shower of black goo is all that remains of the creature, and it too then catches fire and begins to dissolve in front of you. You look at the empty pistol for a second then cast it aside.

Holding your hurt wrist you push off the ground and rise high on your heels panting. A few moments pass as you try to make some sense of what just happened, but there is none. Looking at the paper that is said to hold a spell, and the money you have the urgent need to get rid of it, yet you also know you have nothing else so you can't bring yourself to simply cast it aside. As your heart slows back to a normal rate you think over what the note said, a day at most. You take one step after another, cursing yourself for walking so far. Settling into a comfortable jog, you try to use the ability to zone out and find your path, concentrating on your breathing and watching your feet you keep moving putting more and more distance from where you were. Over the bridge you toss the last key, and the note into the water, keeping only the spell, the id, and the money. You keep moving for an hour more when lights ahead catch your attention. At the end of the road ahead you see the happy glow of a riverboat casino. As you head up the ramp you slow to a walk and smile a big smile.

The man at the door smiles and simply says, “Id please.”

You almost just hand it to him when panic strikes as you realize you are only twenty.
