Coach Lucy meets with Heather
Heather and Coach Lucy sat across from each other, either side of Lucy’s desk in the PE office of the school. Heather had opted to wear some surprisingly sexy, revealing clothes to this meeting - and currently sat with her large chest stuck out confidently, and a smug look on her face.
“So,” Heather smiled.
“So,” Lucy said back coldly, arms crossed and one leg folded over the other as she sat back in her chair. “Tell me about your fights with Billy.”
Heather’s smile widened.
“Well, there have been quite a few now… I was surprised by your email that Billy had told you about them.” Heather leaned back casually, sticking out her bust even further. “He’s always seemed quite ashamed of his performances in them. On account of his being knocked out, you understand. Telling his coach of all people that his mommy could outbox him, well, that was brave of him.”
Lucy grit her teeth, but didn’t interrupt. She wanted to hear Heather’s side of things.
“The boy’s a real sleeper you know.” Heather beamed. “I’ve always been proud of what a good boxer he is, but phew, when he goes out, he goes OUT. I’m embarrassed to admit that sometimes my son is knocked out for hours at a time.” Heather shook her head in amusement. “I’m not even convinced he could handle a punch from his own little sister, and she’s never been the athletic sort. Did you know she’s studying abroad in France at the moment? I’m so proud of the woman she’s becoming. A real academic genius.”
“Let’s stay focused on Billy,” Lucy interjected. “What is it that makes you think that you’re knocking him out?”
Heather gave Lucy a quizzical, amused look.
“Well, let’s see.” She put a finger to her chin in an over-the-top display of deep thinking. “We put on our boxing gloves. The sparring starts. I punch him in the chin, he drops, and he doesn’t get back up again.” Heather recounted.
Lucy’s crossed arms squeezed tighter. She wasn’t enjoying listening to this woman discredit her best student and champion. Besides, what kind of pathetic son actually could lose a fight to his mom? Get knocked out by her? The thought was humiliating. And seeing this mom revel in that thought, the idea that she could punch out her athlete son, made it even worse.
“Sometimes he’s limp, sometimes he’s stiff - sometimes he even drools or snores.” Heather continued. “But no matter what, at the end of the fight, he’s always sound asleep. I must have dethroned this club’s champion a half dozen times by now. And as I said before - when he sleeps? He SLEEPS.”
Heather leaned forward, her elbows resting on Lucy’s desk.
“So I can certainly understand why you wanted to meet with me and talk about it. It’s very concerning.” she admitted, not doing anything to hide her smile. “The boy just keeps on losing to me. I’ve tried teaching him some of my tricks, but it’s never been enough to stop him getting knocked out.” Heather pouted. “What should we do to make him tougher?”
Lucy had had enough of listening to this. Heather was clearly enjoying this all far too much. But just as Lucy was about to tell the busty woman exactly what she thought of these “knockouts” she’d been supposedly delivering to her son, Heather spoke up again with a new topic of focus.
“I mean, you’re a former professional boxer yourself, aren’t you?” Heather asked. “A fairly successful one, I believe. What was your record again?”
“38-6.” Lucy answered honestly. She’d fought tough competition her entire career, never taking on scrubs or cans like some other pros did, and she wore every fight on her record with pride.
“Mm.” Heather smirked. “Six losses. Ever been… Knocked out?” she cooed.
“Twice.” Lucy wasn’t ashamed to admit.
“Mm-HMMmm.” Heather let out a soft giggle. “Two knockout losses… In public? In a professional match? And how many more behind the scenes, I wonder?”
Heather smirked, picturing the stern, scowling Coach Lucy instead out cold on her back in the middle of a boxing ring, defeated. Put to sleep by a superior female boxer. Weeks of training, wasted - not even enough to keep her eyes open until the fight ended.
“This isn’t about me-“ Lucy began, but was quickly cut off.
“Ever been put to sleep by a student?” Heather asked, quickly. “Getting knocked out in the middle of a class, or during a demonstration, by some rookie kid? Or were you ever knocked out by a hobbyist, back in your pro days? Someone with more natural talent than you had learned skill? Or maybe there was just some random nobody you didn’t even know the name of, just passing through, who left you napping like a baby in the middle of your gym?”
“This ISN’T about me.” Lucy said again, more forcefully. “Heather, I don’t think you understand what a boxing prodigy your son is. He is by far the most promising student I have ever seen. He’s already better than most pros, and he’s a phenomenal athlete with an incredible future ahead of him. This horseplay you two are doing at home is stifling his potential. Why do you keep on doing it?”
“I’m better than him.” Heather answered simply. “I keep on doing it because he hasn’t been able to stop me. Oh, Lucy, you should SEE the way his body just DROPS-“
“Listen, Heather.” Lucy interrupted. “I’ve boxed Billy, not holding back, and I couldn’t knock him out. Me, a professional boxer turned professional boxing coach. You’d have no chance. You understand? He’s faking it. He’s pretending to get knocked out. It isn’t real.”
Heather shrugged.
“Maybe I’ve just got a mother’s touch.”
Lucy was getting more frustrated now. Heather was clearly intent on continuing with this bizarre dynamic she had with her son.
“Why are you doing this? Do you get off on this? Have you got a kink?” Lucy asked, exasperated. “Even if it was real, why would you want to be a better boxer than your son? What would you want to win those fights, to knock him out, to defeat the athletic champion you’d raised?”
“Frankly, how I choose to raise my boy is none of your concern.”
This was building to a crescendo. Lucy desperately wanted to take back control, to convince Heather she was living a fantasy. And Heather wanted to enjoy her newfound power some more.
After all, Billy had always seemed so tough… But apparently, he had just one weakness. Just one person who could beat him, let alone completely finish him, time and time again. Only Heather could do it. Only his mom. And she could knock the skilled, athletic, undefeated champion out so hard that his toes curled. She could punch that boy’s “undefeated” chin into tomorrow.
And that’s when one of the women made the suggestion that would shape Billy’s future.
