Chapter 5 by Guforess Guforess

What does Zoe learn from the books?

A few simple spells

Zoe read though the introduction of the magic 101 spellbook, stopping on a paragraph that caught her eye.

IV. The spellcaster's mark

For any magic user worth their salt, the basic rule for determining the penchant for magic is in the birthmark. While most normal people have regular or mildly odd birthmark shapes, humans with affinity for magic will be born with extremely unique birthmarks that take the form of strange or unorthodox shapes. When casting spells, the birthmark will start to glow and feel warm to signify magical energy flowing through.

Now that she thought about it, Zoe did have a weird birthmark. Her family often laughed and joke about it, as did her very close friends. However, instances of bullying and mocking for the unnatural shape made her more **** to openly show it to people she wasn't that close with, learning not to talk about it.

Zoe pushed down her pants and panties to reveal the birthmark located on her side hip near her plump ass. It was dark brown, contrasting with her fair skin, and resembled an hourglass. Two round blobs were on top of each other, connected by a thin straight line. Now with the revelation of her lineage, it seemed less like an hourglass and more like amoeba dividing.

So there is was, proof that she could do magic.

But theory and practice were very different. Zoe pulled up her pants and undergarments while she flipped through to the basic spells section.

I. Simple fire spell

One of the most basic of all spells. It requires the least energy and proves the most useful for survival situations.

To cast it, the user needs to focus on generating fire, imagining in very vivid detail a small fire igniting on their hands or fingers. Once the mental image is there, simply call out "Pyr" and a mild warm feeling should be felt in the spellcaster's mark, along with a faint glow.

In successful cases, a small fire will be ignited that does not burn the user. To make it bigger, focus more and imagine a bigger fire. To make it smaller or extinguished, move attention away from the spell

For unsuccessful cases, try closing eyes to focus better or imagine a matchstick bring lit to connect the imagery to feeling.

Zoe immediately set to work trying out out. With a strong focus and yell of "Pyr!", a small flame ignited on her finger while her birthmark spot started feeling warm and tingly. She marvelled at the sight, taking in the strange sensation of the fire hovering above her index finger while she tried not act too shocked in case it would put the fire out.

Chuckling to herself, Zoe muttered a "cool!" before moving on to other spells, eager to learn.

Close to an hour later, Zoe had tried out every basic spell at least once. Though they were simple and their effects minor, such as the minor plant growth acceleration spell and short floating spells, they were still fun to learn. No wonder her ancestor got up to the whole witchcraft business.

Now yearning for more, Zoe continued on to the advanced spells section of the book, flipping through to see what caught her eye until she landed on the instructions for an interesting spell: Duplication.

Does Zoe learn that spell?
