Chapter 2

Who’s story do we follow, and how do they find out about their powers?
Sam - 19 y/o college student, and with a small spill
Sam awoke in a haze, sitting up in his dorm room bed. Looking around his room, he saw the mess he had grown all too familiar with. He stood up, slinging a towel over his shoulder, grabbing his last set of fresh clothes and walked to the shower. He wasn't the most well kept, his messy brown hair fell down with creases and irregular parts. He looked like a character from an anime, bushy hair sprouting all over his head, even a few spikes of hair erroneously jutting out. After his shower, he freshened up and walked back to his room, tossing yesterday's clothes onto a pile that he swore he'd get to when he had the time. Too bad it wasn't going to be for many a day as he walked to his dining hall, intent on filling up on a subpar breakfast. He walked quickly, past the main gate, disregarding the "Don't Waste Your Food!" sign, which was plastered shoddily on every wall. It was so common place in his everyday life, that he hardly thought to look at it.
Setting up at a table and gathering a plate of overcooked sausage and undercooked eggs, some well-buttered toast, and a glass of milk. It wasn't a very... nutritionally balanced meal, but it did the trick well enough. He sat down alone at the small table, scornfully chomping away at his half-hearted attempt at a meal. All around him he heard the charming banter of his fellow students. Oh how he wished he could just go up to them and talk, but it wasn't like he knew any of them, and the way he saw it, It would be nothing but an embarrassment. He slurped down his glass of milk standing up, ready to return his plate and go on with his day. unfortunately, it seemed that fate had other plans, as he tripped over his own shoelaces, instantly falling to the ground in a moment that seemed to slow down time. Everyone in his immediate area looked on as his glass flew out of his hand, a couple of drops spilling out. Thankfully, he was able to catch it just in time, landing on one knee and letting out a small yelp of pain as the people around him began to laugh. He felt a hot wave of shame wash over him as he stood up, putting his plate away and turning to leave. Well, he didn't leave just yet. First he'd bend down to tie his shoes, making sure he wouldn't make the same mistake twice, but by the time he stood up, he had witnessed something that seemed unimaginable.
Looking on, he saw as the other students picked up their plates and flung them behind their backs, some were half finished, some were just filled. It was appalling to watch, and you couldn't help but glance up at the signs you had seen everyday for months. Only... Something was off. Where once there was a small graphic of a girl with and empty plate, accompanied by the words "Don't Waste Your Food!", there was now a picture of a girl tossing a full plate of food on the floor, next to the words "Waste Your Food!" Sam was truly mesmerized as he saw all of the casually throwing away their plates without a care in the world. "I must be imagining... Maybe it'd be best to go to class..." He thought to himself, taking a walk out of the building. He walked by, passing the buildings on his way, watching as a woman leaned out her window, tossing a half eaten bag of chips out, and onto a pile in the middle of the sidewalk. In fact, everywhere he went, their seemed to be piles of half eaten food. It was like his room, covered in mess after mess. The smell of rotting food was enough to make him start jogging to class, hopefully it'd be better to be inside a building with no food, like the engineering department. He quickly made his way to the building, slamming the door behind him.
He took a minute for himself, standing at the door. "Could this be... my fault? It seemed like everything went all weird when I tripped over...? Maybe that was what caused it? Me tripping? No, that's ridiculous... it could be me tying me shoes... or when I spilled that milk...?" He thought for a moment. "Maybe that's it! I broke the rule about wasting food, and suddenly everything changed... But that doesn't make sense!" He walked slowly to his class. "maybe it's just the act of breaking a rule...? Is this like, a superpower... oh fuck. I must be going insane." He stopped, taking a deep breath as he entered his lecture hall, sitting down in the back row. "Ma-maybe I can do it again...? Like, if I break on of Mrs. Wheeler's rules?" He looked forward, seeing his teacher, a small, portly old woman. She was a very conservative person, and was extremely strict about keeping things her way. She hated basically anything that her students enjoyed, like dyed hair, short clothes, and eating in class, but her only rule that she really enforced was a highly strict "no swearing" policy, which included words like fuck and ass, but even more mild words like hell and damn. maybe it wouldn't cause that much of a fuss if he swore in class...? It's purely scientific after all. He needed to test his theory!
Does he actually go through with it, or try to break a different rule?
Mandated by law
When only your rules apply
In a different timeline, one person was cursed with an insane ability. Not only were they above the law, but if they did choose to break it, the laws of the world would rewrite themselves to make it illegal not to do what they do.
