Chapter 3 by TheRandomSN TheRandomSN

What's the best option?

Cut through the woods behind the reader

After making up her mind Jen cut across the trail quickly and into the tree line on the west side, quickly stepping several feet inside to put some coverage between herself and anyone who happened across. She began lightly stepping through the woodland, keeping an eye towards the dog park to make sure she didn’t get off course.

Moving slowly, she took her time to make sure she wouldn’t step on anything to make nosie. Creeping under a few low hanging branches and around tree trunks, she pasued every few minutes to peek through the foliage to spot the reader. The lady kept her eyes on the book in perched on her lap. Every few strides Jen felt more secure that she could do this. But she also knew she’d be getting much closer to the reader than she was now.

Ahead of her she saw the trees starting to thin out. She had known they would, she’d been to the area enough times to know that some distance behind the dog park was a street running north to south that could make out parts of the dog park and-

Shit, I didn’t think of the street! Jen thought. Okay, let’s think this through. It’s at least thirty yards away from the trees, that’s a decent distance, and the trees aren’t that far apart really. It’s not that busy a street either. I can probably find places where I’m hidden from that lady and the street at the same time in case any cars come by

Knowing she’d already committed to this course of action Jen didn’t want to backtrack now. She desperately wanted to just get dressed and go home. The longer she was out here, the more likely her luck would run out.

She began moving again towards the west. The trees thinned out gradually, and soon she heard the sound of a car passing along the street. She dipped her head slightly but still couldn’t make out the road. Looking to her right, she saw the reader hadn’t changed positions.

The tree line started to curve behind the dog park and Jen followed it. Her nerves lit back up as she was now approaching the reader. She kept to her method, standing slightly hunched over with her knees bent, checking the ground ahead of her to avoid breaking a stick or accidentally kicking a rock before setting her bare foot down. Soon the arc had her facing north, and mere yards away from the woman.

Looking ahead, she realized the trees were thinning out more than she expected. Another car passed by and this time she could see it on the street once it was further north. From this angle it was difficult to tell how often she would be able to hide from both the street and the reader. The distance from the street was her best protection from anyone driving by, as well as the occasional cluster of tall unkempt grass in the narrow space covering that expanse of land.

She took another few steps north, slowing every few minutes to check her cover. No cars had come by for a few minutes but Jen’s anxiety kept increasing as she neared the woman on the bench.

After two strides further along she heard the distant sound of a motor approaching from up ahead. Jen quickly peeked over and saw she was perfectly obscured from the lady reading. Looking left she was shocked to find a gaop between the trees, about three yards wide, where she could be perfectly visible from the street if the driver happened to look over.

Her first instinct was to try to move forward and pray she could reach another tree to shield herself from the woman and get her out of sight of the street. She lifted one foot but looked down- right where she wanted to step several large dead, dried branches lay on the ground in a cluster.

No time!

Jen dropped onto her stomach, her naked body sprawling across the dirt. Less than a second after doing so she heard the car passing approaching and it came into view. Her eyes darted right and left, making sure the lady reading wasn’t looking up from her book and praying the driver wasn’t looking in her direction. Her first thought was that if she was seen laying nude on the ground the driver might assume it was a dead body or **** victim and call the police. Jen dreadfully wanted to avoid any involvement with law enforcement.

The driver, an older man, kept his eyes trained on the road dead ahead. The car passed by without speeding up, slowing down or swerving in the slightest. Glancing back into the dog park, the lady was still absorbed in her book. Jen allowed herself to breathe. Slowly she braced her toes against the dirt, planted her hands on the ground and pushed herself back up into the crouched position she’d grown slightly used to.

Her first reaction was to brush the dirt from her body but she caught herself, worried about making noise. That could be done once she was well past this obstacle. She took a few steps towards the road to move around the tangle of twigs, then was able to tiptoe back on course. She kept traveling closer to the woman, closer to the edge of the dog park. Soon she found herself behind a tree, directly behind the bench occupied by the reading lady.

Two big steps out of the trees and I could touch her, she thought. And she has no clue she’s so close to a completely nude, frightened woman.

Now Jen was moving as slowly and quietly as she could possibly manage. She rarely heard any noise as she set her feet down with each step, at most a minimal shifting of the earth but nothing that would reach her unknowing companion’s ears. She realized that she’d crossed her hands over her breasts and vagina to try to hide what little modesty she could if the lady suddenly turned around and looked over.

Okay, three yards past her… now five… please keep reading, please keep reading.

Before she knew it she was fifteen yards past her and the woman was still engrossed in her book. Jen had reached the end of the dog park, the tree line now arcing to her right. She kept on a northbound course to get more distance between her and the reader.

She saw the trees ahead thin out and beyond them a large clearing. Skulking closer, she saw fifty yards of field ahead of her, no paths through it but large clusters of tall, heavily overgrown natural grass, more yellow than green. She knew the city only mowed this area three times every year since many residents liked having parts of land that looked untouched by humans. The street continued well into the distance, and curved slightly to the right, deeper into the field in closer to the path Jen could take if she went straight to the trash can. Beyond the overrun meadow Jen could see the parking lot. To the right she knew the main trail through the park sat, and could see the trees that lined it the entire way to the parking lot.

The trash can is practically straight ahead of me through this field, she thought. The grass isn’t consistent enough to hide me from the road all the time, and I really don’t like how close I would get to it if I went through here. But if not this route then it’s back to the park and the trail. That would take me closer to my car than the trash can, but I can just drive to the trash can. The trail also has more trees I can hide in if anyone comes by. Still, I think there could be enough grass patches that I could probably make it if I’m careful

What's Jen's best bet?
