Chapter 11 by MeedrowH MeedrowH

...that's unfortunate

...who also doubles as a forbidden class!

Travis felt an eerie presence close in around him as he was being pulled into nothingness at an alarming speed. His heart jumped to his throat, a sense of danger arising. A notification sprung forth.

[Entering God’s Realm.]

God’s Realm? Where has he heard of something like that…?

Suddenly, a red platform extending into eternity appeared, and before long, he landed on it, immediately standing on his feet. Looking around, he noticed a vaguely familiar face.

Redion was sitting on his armchair with a teapot in his hand as he was spilling hot liquid into two cups on the table in front of him.

“Sit down,” he said in a calm tone. “Have some tea. We have things to talk about."

Travis looked a little to his left and then to his right. Yet, this place was just as empty as he remembered it. Not wanting to squander time, he sat in an empty armchair opposite Redion's. Accepting a cup from the god, he took a sip. Goodness, this liquid was good. It was like a good coffee but without the bitter taste. In fact, it was quite sweet. Looking at Redion, he noticed how the red-haired god took his hat off.

“How do you do this?” he asked a single question that seemed to lack an anchor point.

“?” Travis raised an eyebrow, visibly confused.

“How do you do this? Honestly, I’m flabbergasted at this point. How the fuck do you get yourself into mortal danger three times in TWO DAYS?!” The red-haired man leaned his head on a hand. “Seriously, is it so difficult to just wait a little?"

“...RALS didn’t activate until--“

"Would it have killed you to check everything before setting off? All RALS needed was 15 minutes to calibrate itself! FIFTEEN!" Redion exploded. “But no! Pondering is not for you, apparently! And how did that end for you? Penalty Zone almost killed you! It's not a place designed for you to be level 1!"

“…”

“And that stat distribution is utter ridiculousness..." Redion clicked his tongue.

“…what’s wrong with it?” Travis tilted his head a little.

“Your Agility is twice your Endurance! How do you expect to run for an entire day like this?! Moreover, your Wisdom is 15, and your Intelligence is 17. Your two main building blocks are lower than your Sense!” the god's face appeared even redder with anger than before.

Travis remained quiet at the retort. Uncertainty of how to answer filled his mind. Long seconds passed, not a sound emanating from either him or the redhead god in front of him.

"...The issue is, you still think you’re a Rogue," Redion eventually sighed heavily, beginning to calm down. "It was a class that fitted you somewhat, so it’s hard to let go of the habit of thinking about yourself as one. But now, you’re my Apostle, so you need to focus on the stats that would benefit you the most.”

“Won’t Agility be important?” Travis inquired, an eyebrow raised.

“Oh, it sure will, but it is already higher than other stats. What’s the point of hyperbolizing it further?!”

“…hyperbolizing?”

“…never mind. You can’t reassign stats. As it is now, your distribution is disastrous, but you have 10 points to spend. And that brings us to the current problem. That elf woman," Redion's words sent a shiver down Travis's spine. A long moment of silence was beset upon them.

“…in my defense, there was no implication she could be that summoner.”

“That's one point for you. She was hiding her real nature pretty well. I was surprised by that as well,” Redion nodded. “Which doesn’t justify you just chatting with her on the way. In your world’s eyes, you’re no different from a Psion, so you should keep a low profile. But you gave her your name. For fuck's sake, would it hurt you to at least think of a fake one?”

“…so what if she knows my name?”

“She knows how you look, your name, and even one of your destinations! Imagine if she gets to Icla before you, which shouldn’t be hard for her. You’ll start being pursued by the entire kingdom, assuming she won’t just kill you beforehand! Goddammit, you’re dense!”

"..."

“Alright…” Redion put two fingers on the bridge of his nose with a heavy exhale. “You need to set yourself free and ensure she’ll not tell anyone about your ability.”

“…how would she know?”

“You used <Suggestion> on her summon. Summons are immune to mind control, but she must’ve felt your attempt. Typically, summoners have strings of connections to their puppets. Also, judging by the looks of her summons, she’s probably past a class advancement.”

“What? That'd mean her level is at least 100... how come she didn't kill me with that strike?” asked Travis, his tone betraying his bewilderment.

“That I don’t know,” Redion shook his head, his hair waving a little. “In the first place, I find it strange she didn't finish you off yet. It's already been almost half an hour there, and yet, you're still alive. But that can wait. For now, you need to figure out a way out. I can’t have you die on me.”

“…that being said… why did you choose me?”

“What? Why this question all of a sudden?” the red-haired man tilted his head a little.

“I just wondered. Surely there were Psions you could've chosen?”

“Of course, quite a number, even. Do you expect some profound reason?"

...

Redion looked to his side for a split second. A deep sigh escaped his mouth. "I took pity on you. That is all."

"...pity? You chose me because you 'felt sorry' for me?" Travis grimaced slightly. 'For a god, I can't help but feel as though he did not think this through...'

Redion sighed heavily. The teacup in his hand levitated in place as the god let go of it and stood up from his armchair. Within his deep blue eyes, something appeared to momentarily stir. This, however, got washed away in an instant.

"That doesn't matter. I had a feeling, seeing you, that this class would be a perfect fit. It's also beneficial to you. You can become extraordinarily more powerful as my Apostle. However, one step at a time. I can’t help you directly, but I can stretch the rules a little bit and **** you back into your body right now,” a scepter appeared in his hand. “Any questions?”

“Any advice?"

Redion combed his beard for a moment. “...summoners tend to be weak physically. I’m not sure if I can tell you more. I don’t want to risk disqualification. Anything else?”

“…no,” Travis shook his head.

“Alright, then. Remember, try to think about what to do. Don’t disappoint me,” Redion rapidly swung the scepter, sending Travis off.

[Exiting God’s Realm.]

A notification sprung forth as he felt his body being pulled by a powerful ****. In the blink of an eye, the red plane of existence vanished from his field of view. A long moment of silence passed before he sluggishly felt his eyes open. The blue expanse of the sky was visible from his position, though it was partially covered by some tree branches. Strong pain was ravaging his brain, and as he tried to move, he felt his arms and legs tied to two trees by long ropes, not allowing any freedom of movement. He tried pulling one of the ropes with all his ****, but they barely budged.

Suddenly, Silva's voice entered his ears, “Awake already? Psions really are something different,” there was a bit of surprise in her voice as she leaned over him from his right. She no longer wore her leather armor and instead was covered by a large, gray tunic and leather pants.

“H-Huh? Silva?” he tried his best to act surprised. “What did you do to me? Why did you bind me?”

“Oh? Right, sorry," the blue-eyed elf almost chuckled whilst shaking her head lightly. "I'm not used to talking during rituals," she turned around, disappearing from his field of view.

“Hey! Don’t ignore me like that! Why did you bind me?!”

“Oh, don’t worry about it. You won’t mind it in a few minutes,” she smiled somewhat playfully, showing him a serious work knife. Its dark gray color and shining edge showed him that it was not either made of normal iron or blunt in any way. Its length was nearly 30 cm.

“W-What?! W-What do you want to do with this?!”

“I think you know. I’ll be turning you into my shadow soldier,” she smiled. “Now, tell me, Travis, if that’s even your real name. What kind of skills do you have as a Psion?” she got closer to him, and while she seemed a little intimidating with the way she was closing in the knife to him, there was also a bit of childlike curiosity emanating from her. "I really, REALLY want to see how many of them you’ll keep as my shadow. Come on, tell me,” she crept closer and closer to him, the distance between their noses decreasing so much that he could hit her with his head. He wanted to do that but reminded himself of Redion’s words.

‘Think about what to do…’

“…I’m not a Psion, Silva. W-Why do you think I’m one?”

“Listen, I know you’re not used to other people knowing about your class, and it’s alright. But I won’t be telling that to anyone. I’m not nicely received in many places, either."

“W-What do you mean?”

“I’m a Necromancer,” a playful smile entered her face, and her eyes glimmered like oceanic waves.

The words spoken, compiled with her expression, made Travis’ heart sink deep into his chest. He turned his gaze away, trying to look for anything to escape with when he heard her say, “And I know you tried to meddle in Berry’s mind when he was trying to hunt you.”

“…Berry’s mind?”

“Oh, right, I forgot! Meet everyone! My name is Leavalja (shortened to Leaf by everyone)," she got a hand to her chest for but a moment. "This is Berry," she pointed slightly to her side, and the black bear stepped into Travis's field of view for a moment. "And these guys are Bill and Jay!" the elf woman added, and two black crows flew onto her stretched hand. "There was also... one more, but..." her sapphire eyes closed for a moment, a trace of a sorrowful expression forming before she frowned slightly. "Anyway, I'll make sure to help you grow stronger quickly!" she added with a cheer before turning slightly away.

He wasn’t sure how he should respond. ‘She’s a complete nutcase.’ this was his decisive thought about Silva-- no, about Leaf. But there was no time to ponder. Using the short time of silence, Travis asked a question to RALS.

‘By using Complete Stealth, I can become undetectable, and it will remove sounds I make. How effective are those effects?’ seeing that he had nearly half HP left and 10 stat points to assign, an idea appeared.

[Processing…

100% of the sound and sight of you will be nullified, as well as all mana traces. All origins are included. However, if the spell is disrupted, all its effects are canceled until it reactivates.]

‘…it’s both good and bad.’ he thought, realizing what it meant. His plan, although kind of dumb, could quite possibly be his only way out. He peeked back at Leaf, who got the cosmetic arrow out of her bun, letting her brown hair descend down to her elbows. Her stare met his.

“Hey, come on. You can trust me here, Travis. I’m never going to tell anyone you were a Psion. But I want to know about your skills. Come on, please?”

He didn’t answer. So long he could stall, he wanted to still look for another way out. He needed to mentally prepare himself for the one that seemed like his only one.

Leaf squinted her eyes a little, lowering the knife. Suddenly, she brought a hand up to her chest level. “Hey, look here,” seeing Travis turn his head toward her a little, she brought her hand under one of her breasts. “Aren’t they nice? Come on, let’s say we make a deal. You will tell me your skills, and I'll show them to you, deal?” she lifted the breast up slightly and let go of it, making it bounce a little.

Travis averted his gaze. However, he could tell the offer tempted him, even if just a little bit. The sheer size of Leaf’s breasts would make it difficult to focus on the talk with her, was he not in a life-or-**** situation. They looked springy and youthful, which was a quality that was difficult to uphold when they were each slightly larger than her head. Leaf also seemed aware of her assets as she presented her chest outward a bit more, but to little effect; he wouldn't falter.

However, she appeared to hardly give up on her attempt. Leaf made a quick turn left, and then right, her massive boobs swaying tantalizingly with the movements. Noticing Travis peeking at her for a split second, she continued, “Come on, a good deal here. Trust me, most elves are not even half what a human can grow to, and they complain about their being a hindrance. I say mine are lovable and a sight to behold. All I need is to know your skills, and I can show them to you in their full glory~,” she was speaking in a somewhat seductive tone, leaning closer to Travis.

‘…maybe I can use this.’ a realization hit him as he turned his head more. He eyed Leaf for a long, tense moment, and then parted his lips. “Alright, it’s a deal. But, first show, then tell.”

“Hmm, making your own conditions? Alright then,” she got hold of the tunic's hem, not hesitating for even a split second.

“And one more thing,” his voice stopped her before she raised her clothing. “Take off the entire thing.”

“Getting needy, are we? I like the way you’re thinking. Enjoy, Travis~” Leaf made a sultry smile as she pulled the tunic up, slowly at first, allowing both her breasts to get caught on the edge of her tunic and rise a little with it. Suddenly, they both got out from under the material and swayed a little left and right, getting presented to the world. It also showed another thing: Leaf was not wearing a bra.

He had to admit, they were a sight to behold. He noticed how they were rather perky but still sagged downward a little, outfitted with large areolas and rather flat nipples. No, actually, scratch that last one. Leaf’s nipples weren’t flat but inverted.

But as amazed by the sight as he was, Travis knew that right now he had his only chance to gain freedom. When Leaf was going with the tunic over her head, eyes closed (presumably), he commanded.

‘<Complete Stealth>.’

The process was instant. He felt mana shift around him, and within a second or so he felt… chilly, for some reason. Still, he knew, he felt that the spell worked correctly. He could only hope that Leaf wouldn’t want to immediately check if he really disappeared.

“What say you, Travis?” Leaf shook her head and opened her eyes, getting a hand on a tit and fondling it a little. “They’re amazing, right…?” She looked toward Travis’ face with a little surprised expression. Then, she looked elsewhere, seemingly into the forest. “Huh? W-What? Where’s he? Did anyone see what happened?” Leaf asked in a direction, and as Travis turned his head, he noticed the black bear standing right opposite the Necromancer.

‘Shit, I didn’t take into account this guy!’ he felt his heart sink a little, but then, he noticed how the bear shook its head. ‘...Did it not see me?’

“What?” Leaf turned around, not caring one bit for her massive breasts swaying like pendulums. “W-Well, don’t stand around like that! Everyone, find him!” she commanded, and within moments, Travis noticed the pair of crows rising into the sky. Berry also quickly went away.

He wanted to break free. He already knew a way and wanted to go through with it, but… if he timed it wrong, he’d only guarantee his ****.

Meanwhile, Leaf was moving back and forth, looking at the place where he was lying.

“H-How could he have? A-And after I… All of the preparation?! Oh come on, that’s not fair! I...” she gritted her teeth momentarily but soon relaxed. “No, calm down, everyone. The rite is prepared, and he didn’t even break it. That’s... nice of him. It’s still good to be u-used,” she suddenly chuckled, but Travis could swear he heard a sob in there.

The elf woman turned away from him and started rummaging through her bag, seemingly looking for something. Making use of the moment, Travis concentrated on his hands. ‘RALS, increase Strength by 10 points.’ a bold move, considering that his Strength was pretty high already, but he couldn’t be taking chances. He needed all the power he could muster to perform his escaping trick. He braced himself, getting hold of his left thumb… And then, he used all his strength and twisted it close enough to the palm of his hand to break it out of its socket. He felt the crack happen, and an immense wave of pain made him want to scream. Still, feeling that the stealth was temporarily gone, he used every single bit of strength to prevent himself from doing that. Looking at Leaf still going through stuff in her backpack, he could only count seconds tick away slowly. 1, 2, 3… 5… and finally, 7. The magical number passed, and he felt the chilly sensation over him again.

“Fuck!” a scream attempted to leave his vocal cords but strangely, no sound did. Still, he imagined if his voice were in place, they would hear him far away.

‘Shit, it hurts!’ he took a few deep breaths, trying to stabilize himself. Thankfully for him, he knew that the hardest part was already over. Now was the time for a technique that Storm Rogue had shown him the theory of. He did manage to untie himself a few times, but… never before was it with a broken thumb.

Quickly, he slid his left hand through the tie around his wrist and started working on the right one. Hurriedly, he managed to get it undone quickly enough for himself to get out of the ritual circle before Leaf turned around to do something to it. Quickly untying his feet from their constraints as well, he was finally free. Immediately, he wanted to break into a run, but… he hesitated. Remnants of Redion’s advice echoed in his mind.

‘Summoners have weak physical capabilities… and if I subdue her, I’ll receive a skill point. Moreover, if I just run, she’ll probably pursue me, and find me sooner or later.’ he shivered at the thought. He couldn’t just go and hide somewhere, knowing that she had birds as summons. Then again, did Necromancers also have weak physiques?

…he wanted to ponder for a bit but decided not to. Worst case scenario, if she resisted a blow that should knock her out, then he would run. Yes, it made sense. 7 seconds would probably pass before she really realized what happened. Now, he needed some weapon to knock her out with.

He looked around. Ropes that he was previously tied with were now visible, but of little to make Leaf lose her consciousness. He watched as she inspected the spot where he was lying a minute prior, her eye almost at ground level, not caring one bit for her boobs brushing on the ground. Quickly, he made his way to her bag and looked inside for anything of use. Noticing some kind of a pole sticking out of one of the pockets he got hold of it. Ensuring she was still turned away he slowly pulled it out. After inspecting the thing he held, he got a vague feeling that it reminded him of something. ‘A bow?’ he had yet to see a bow that could be bent like this, but… no, no point pondering. He got a better hold of it and almost swung it a little before he stopped himself. No, doing something as stupid as faking an attack could undo the stealth.

Leaf got back to her knees, looking at the sigil on the ground. He made his way around her and looked at her for a moment. He couldn’t help but notice her expression. She wasn’t frustrated or angry. In fact, the only expression he could notice on her face was… sadness. For someone who just tried to kill him, she sure had a weird way of showing her reaction to his escape. Could it be that she really was sad? Travis got perplexed when he noticed that in her blue eyes, some tears appeared.

No, shake out of it. She was probably angered to tears by his escape. He fixed his grip on the folded bow and got behind her, standing just in arm’s reach. He rose the bow, and prepared to strike at her, but… he hesitated. For some reason, he felt… guilty for doing this. Even though not 5 minutes ago he was bound by her and would probably be dead by now, Leaf seemed… sorry?

No. That couldn’t be it. If she were sorry about him escaping, almost as if she regretted almost killing him, then why did she want to do it in the first place? Once again, Travis felt that Leaf was a nutcase. Still, a weight on his chest increased as he felt his conviction arise again.

‘Sorry.’ he couldn’t speak his mind, so he only thought of an apology as he took the wide swing. The bow went in a perfect arc and hit the elf girl cleanly in her right temple. Instantly, she fell to the ground. Travis poked her a little and confirmed that she was knocked out.

He took a momentary look at Leaf. Seeing her on her side, he couldn’t help but notice how shapely her breasts were. Travis quickly scanned the forest around and confirming that they were alone, got his hand on one. It was perky, but also very soft, and warm. For a few seconds, he fondled her massive tit, until he decided he needed to focus.

‘They really are nice.’ he thought to himself as he undid the bowstring from her bow. Checking its strength a little, he prepared himself to tie her hands up… but froze before he did so. ‘I won’t lie, the view is nice, but if I’ll be leaving her here…’ he got hold of her tunic. He looked over it for a moment and then reached out to Leaf. He took her by the shoulders and dragged her to the nearest tree. He let her lean on it with her back and grabbed her tunic.

Dressing her in the clothing took him almost 10 minutes. Normally, it would be a surprisingly sluggish speed, but he had to operate with a broken thumb which significantly slowed down his speed of operations. Honestly, a lot of trouble came from Leaf’s breasts, as well. It was difficult to not pay them any attention as he was fixing her attire, and he had to admit, he did give them a couple squeezes. Eventually, seeing her dressed up and leaning on a tree, he sighed. Relief washed over him as he proceeded to get her knife and cut one of the ropes that she initially tied him up with.

He bound her hands together. It was a crude tie, but after repeating its pattern a few times, it looked to be enough. She shouldn’t be able to free herself easily. He did the same tie on her ankles and sighed in relief.

As the <Complete Stealth> ran out, he couldn’t help but feel a little… surprised. Leaf hasn’t woken up yet. Even if he gave her the point of having a weak sturdiness because of being a summoner (well, a type of one, at least), it was quite slow. Or... was it because of his Strength? Hard to conclude.

Eventually, he sat down on the opposite side of the tree she was tied by and noticed a new notification.

[Fulfilled optional condition ‘Subdue or kill the summoner’.]

[1 skill point has been awarded.]

‘RALS, what skills can I learn right now?’ was the immediate question.

[Processing…]

Many orbs on branches, representing different skills, appeared around him suddenly like fruits on a tree. Some were cloaked in shadows, and as he traced all the lines that connected them back to himself, he noticed how the half-translucent, blue tree started from just a couple skills that circled him.

Skill trees were not something he was unfamiliar with, but none of them were so… intricate or large. On top of that, all the skill trees he had seen so far were somewhat bland, only having the gray orbs for unavailable skills, white orbs for available ones, and golden for the ones he had. RALS’s skill tree looked largely the same, but its orbs had a nice glimmer to them, and the ties between them appeared to wave ever so slightly, almost like gossamer in a gentle breeze. This appeared to further signify the interconnections between the abilities, showing the dependencies... or so was Travis's initial thought. Whether or not that was true was up to debate.

He skimmed through the information for all available skills at the fastest speed he could. He had to admit, most of the ones he could learn at this very moment didn't look that bad. Especially 3 of them made him ponder for a moment.

[Hypnosis lvl. 1

Requires the target’s attention to be focused on some foci while using the skill. Hypnotizing speed depends on skill level, your WP, and the target’s WP.

Targets of higher WP than you are resistant and take longer to hypnotize, depending on the difference.

While hypnotized, the target is highly susceptible to all suggestions and statements you make and is more likely to believe them. They will also be much more likely to say things they typically wouldn’t. The skill is canceled if the target receives damage or too much stimulation at once.

The thing that most interested him was the last one. Manifest Reality was… very unique. For a moment, Travis wondered how it would work, or why it should, but then, a memory of his first talk with Redion resurfaced. ‘Redion not only can manipulate the minds of other people. He can even manipulate reality itself.’

Although the price for using this skill was great, Travis was certain it could become an asset in the Apostle’s Competition one day. But that was one day. For now, this skill was useless to him, so he turned his attention to the other two.

In all honesty, neither of those 2 skills was bad, and that was the problem. Travis lacked offense on range further than melee, and >Mana Bolt> could fix that. However… he looked from behind the tree and saw that Leaf was still knocked out. Yup. He couldn’t forget that she was a problem. As much as he wanted to just get the <Mana Bolt> first, reading the information about Hypnosis, an idea popped into his mind.

While still having second thoughts, he decided to pick <Hypnosis>. He closed the skill tree and walked from behind the tree.

Slowly, he made his way to Leaf’s backpack. Rummaging through it a little, he quickly found that it wasn’t too much out of the ordinary. In fact, safe for a small box with something that reminded him of multi-colored chalk, all the other contents were the same as ones carried around by hunters.

After checking Leaf’s bag, looked around for his own, but… he couldn’t find it. But before he could set off for a moment and look for it, he heard Leaf groan heavily.

Turning around, he noticed how she was slowly opening her eyes, lifting her hands to the side of her head she was hit in.

“Ow… What happened? Guys?” she started focusing on the environment around her and suddenly noticed the man. “…Travis?” her eyes widened as she looked down and saw the ties around her hands. “W-What happened?”

“…look here,” he said, pulling out the knife she had presented to him before.

“I-I… w-w-what a-are you going to do with t-this?!” she raised her voice a little, but as Travis expected, she was tracking the blade’s movements as he swung it around a little.

“Don’t worry, just focus on it,” ‘<Hypnosis>.’ he commanded his spirit, and felt the tingling feeling in his chest, much like it happened when he used <Suggestion>, but much stronger this time. Feeling his WP getting drained, he didn’t stop the smooth motions.

“W-What are you d-doing…?” Leaf was resisting his spell, but her eyes were following the knife’s blade. She tilted her head a little before she suddenly fixed her position. “N-No!”

She tried to look away, but…

<I want to look.>

She couldn’t explain why, but she felt something prickle in her mind. A singular thought, that while being alien to hers, felt… weirdly comforting. She wanted to listen to it. That thought gave her a little bit of comfort that she needed right now. Meanwhile, Travis repeated the <Suggestion>.

<I need to look.>

He wasn’t sure how to explain it, but the idea of using <Suggestion> didn’t even pop up consciously. It was as though his mind used the skill on its own accord. Like his body was working autonomously, and he merely supervised. And even when he expected **** mental fortitude around Leaf’s mind, he was surprised to find his spell bouncing a single time before it managed to bolt itself through a hole it found. The second Suggestion had even less trouble getting inside.

“Look at it. It’s pretty, right? It’s shiny. You want to look,” he said the words with a very soft tone, one that he wasn’t even aware he could do. Still, he didn’t stop the movements and watched as Leaf shivered lightly, but didn’t take her eyes away.

“I… w-want to look--“ Leaf stopped speaking suddenly, her eyes still tracing down the blade’s movement, but her mouth not moving anymore. The sapphire eyes suddenly lost a lot of their glow, as if her spirit left her body. Travis felt his heart stop briefly when he realized that the spell worked.

He swung his hand in front of Leaf’s head but received no reaction. Her mouth was half agape as she was staring at the knife’s edge like an undead monster, a bit of saliva starting to overflow from her mouth and making its way down her chin and onto her tunic.

She was now under his control, but that didn’t mean Travis was relaxed.

He needed to act quickly. Almost all his WP was gone, and so was his MP. He only had 5 minutes, he needed to make the most of them.
