Divide Up

Buffy paced back and forth. She’d dealt with a lot of things in Sunnydale but this…well, it wasn’t what she had expected.

Part of her knew she had been freaking out a lot more. Giles, who could barely even talk about anything related to sex around her, had openly suggested they have anal sex. No, not just suggested it, said it like it was a normal thing. And part of her still felt like it wasn’t that strange.

“Why am I not more bothered by what happened with Giles?” Buffy asked the witches. “I thought that this area was protecting us from the spell.”

“Protecting, not eliminating,” Amy answered. “There are going to be lingering effects from the spell.”

“For how long?” Cordelia asked.

Willow gave her a quick nervous glance, “We aren’t sure.”

Buffy could tell that the answer was not a good one. “Faith, what did you see before you got over here?”

“Vampires were out all night. Whatever orders the Mayor had keeping them under wraps don’t seem to be in effect anymore.”

“They out looking for a free meal? Should be pretty easy right now.”

“No, it wasn’t quite like that,” Faith said. “They were feeding, sure, but also they seemed to be getting caught up in the spell. I almost didn’t stake a vamp when she suggested I go down on her.”

“The spell, the vamps, it all has to be a distraction for something,” Buffy answered as she began to run through her options. “Okay, we’ve got three goals. Stop the spell, find out what the Mayor is up to, keep Sunnydale safe.”

“Or, we just stay here until everything blows over,” Cordelia suggested.

“We’ve faced worse than this.”

“Your reputation might be able to survive a public gangbang, but some of us have standards.”

“It’s not an option,” Amy said. “Willow and I cast this spell to protect her house, but it’s weak. It should hold for the rest of the night, but if all of us stay longer than that it will collapse. We can meet here for short periods, but until we make it stronger, most of us are going to have to leave.”

Buffy nodded. She actually felt better that she wasn’t really being given an option about what to do. “Okay, next step is we figure out where to start our investigations. Xander.”

“Yeah?” he asked, still confused by what was going on.

“Do you understand what is going on?”

“Magic, vamps, find out what the Mayor is up to, yeah, I’m following.”

“And if Dawn wanted to give you a handjob?”

“Oh, can I?” Dawn asked excitedly.

Xander shrugged, “Sure, I guess that wouldn’t be a problem.”

Buffy sighed as she looked at Amy and Willow, “Anything we can do about that?”

"We can work on a charm,” Amy confirmed. “Mobile protection.”

“It won’t be perfect,” Willow clarified. “But it should help out a bit. It will take a couple hours to put together.”

“Okay,” Buffy said as a plan started to form. “Xander, head out there. Magic, danger, intel - come back here. This is really important, don’t get distracted. Take Cordy’s car.”

“Wait a minute…” Cordelia started to protest.

“Unless you are going with him, stay out of this,” Buffy shot back. “Willow, Amy, work on those charms. Everyone else, get some sleep until Xander gets back. I have a feeling we aren’t going to have a lot of opportunities to rest after this.”

Buffy snapped the necklace around her sister, “Feel okay?”

“Doesn’t feel any different.”

“Well, do you still want to give a handjob to Xander?”

“I mean…” Dawn said as she thought what answer would satisfy her sister, “no?”

Buffy smirked, she knew about her sister’s crush. “Let me rephrase, do you feel like it would be normal to give Xander a handjob while the whole town watched.”

“No, though, it doesn’t seem totally crazy.”

Buffy was worried about that. Willow and Amy had been clear that the protection wasn’t perfect, they could expect lingering effects. She only hoped they could get this resolved before those effects got too out of hand.

She heard the door open and Xander walked in. Faith quickly snapped an amulet around him as well, they had been worried he might not come back as sensible as he had left.

She listened as he ran through a similar spiel peel of Dawn’s. He could now tell how weird things had been, though they didn’t feel as off as they should.

“Hey, Buff,” Xander said as he approached, “It’s chaotic out there, but I got some good places to start.”

“Great, let’s hear it.”

“Police have a barricade over on East, though there aren’t really any cops around. Not sure what is going on,” Xander said.

“East?” Dawn asked. “That’s where Janice lives.”

“Right, I don’t know beyond that. I checked out the school, but things are kind of crazy, but I think the best thing to do would be to get Giles notes.”

“I’m not sure I’m up to going back there yet,” Buffy said, though she knew she wasn't the only option. “Anything about the spell?”

“I can’t say for certain, but there were a lot of men hanging around the frat rows.”

“And we know that they’ve been involved in some freaky magic in the past,” Buffy added.

“Yeah, it didn’t feel right,” Xander added. “I mean, I know everything isn’t quite right at the moment, but something really felt off over there.”

“If you think it’s worth checking out, Amy or I could take a look at it,” Willow suggested.

“I mean, I’m not used to the life and **** thing like the rest of you,” Amy said, “I’d like some backup.”

Buffy thought over her options. No one could stay behind at the moment, so she even had to send her sister somewhere. The question though was how to divide people:
