Press onward

Swallowing your apprehension, you decide to see just what secrets lie within the depths of the jungle. You explore for perhaps an hour or two, and quickly lose sight of the treeline.

You're about to give up hope of finding anything when your foot slips over a pit that must have been concealed by the thick underbrush. Although you try to reach for a nearby tree to arrest your fall, your efforts prove futile as the pit swallows you whole. The lantern falls from your grasp and bounces its way down a deep shaft with you close behind, tumbling painfully along a steep underground slope.

With a grunt, you skid to a halt in a dank, natural chamber deep below the earth. Miraculously, your lantern seems to have survived the fall, flickering faintly nearby. Any notions of good luck are quickly quashed, however, when a bestial roar echoes through what must be a network of subterranean tunnels. Whatever produced the feral cry must have sensed your rough-and-tumble entrance.

Climbing back up is not an option, at least not without a lot of time-consuming effort and your gear. Right now, you can either make for one of the tunnels, or stay hidden where you are in the hopes of climbing later when you think it's safe.
