Chapter 44
by Manbear
Does Brenan try his plan?
Warning the Peregrine
All in all, Brenan decided Harry was OK. He didn?t protest about the dirty job, and he was easy enough to get along with, by the time he got back to his ship Brenan decided that he could do a lot worse than this overdressed sailor who may or may not dislike Lantians. Back on ship, the freight had been loaded and the tide was just about to turn.
"You still want the berth Castillo?" Brenan asked and when the man nodded yes, Harry extended his hand in welcome. "I think you're going to work out just fine." Brenan told him, hoping that he was correct.
The trip back to the ship took a while because of the crowds that filled the afternoon streets. Brenan made one more stop leaving Castillo in the wagon while he made his way into a distillery.
A short while later he left the shop with a cask of rum tucked under his arm. If he guessed right the Peregrine should be pushing off pretty soon, and he wanted his timing to be exact. He attached a note in a sealed envelope to the side of the cask and addressed it to Captain Roland Carlin.
Captain - Just a parting gift and a note of warning and apology.
You don't know me, but I've heard enough about you to know
you are a decent sort of chap (for a pirate). Earlier this after-
noon men wearing the black bandana's of the Peregrine?s crew
engaged in a small battle that killed at least three townsmen
and blew up part of a building. If all goes according to my plan
you and your crew are going to be blamed for this engagement
(sorry).
If that is the case, you will be hunted by some Veer agents,
one of them a particularly nasty bastard with red hair and a limp.
Also, I would avoid using Freeport as a safe haven until the
townsfolk have had a chance to cool down.
Please accept the rum as a small token of my regret.
That's the least I can do. Brenan thought and then turn Davy's horse back to his ship yards. As he expected, the Peregrine was in the final stages of sailing. Brenan waited until the last tie had been hauled in and the small frigate was drifting freely with the tide.
"Hoy!" He yelled getting the attention of a surprised junior officer before heaving the cask the three meters or so into his arms. As quickly as he had tossed the cask, Brenan slipped back into the crowds and made his way to Davy's wagon.
"You ready to go?" He asked Castillo ignoring the puzzled look on the new man's face. "I'll introduce you to most of the crew." As he turned the wagon back to Davy's shipyard he hoped with all his heart that he still had a crew to introduce Castillo to and that Sasha was safely on board the ship as well.
Did Tyler get Sasha back to the ship safely?
