Chapter 7 by Blues32 Blues32

What next?

Good question...ask for ideas.

You don't take your eyes off the darkness ahead of you as you ask Angel if she had any ideas regarding escape. You hear her taking deep breaths through her nose a moment before she speaks in a more even tone. "There's a backdoor we can try," she whispered. "If the windows won't break and the front door is stuck, that could be our only way out."

That sounds like a good enough plan. Asking directions gets you nowhere, however. "How should I know?" she hisses. "I can't see a damn thing! God, John, I just want to go home!" You shush her gently. You didn't need her breaking down now. Another deep breath. "Right...sorry," she muttered.

After another few seconds of deep breathing, Angel let out a long sigh. "Okay...okay...the front door was to the right...so let's go left at the next turn. Avoid stairs. No reason to go up and down any, right?" she suggests. You head forward, her hand gripped tightly in yours.

You're very tired, however. Using that power of yours had been draining. You feel dizzy. Only your concern for Angel...and your own safety...keeps you awake. As you turn the next corner, you freeze. You can see the backdoor, as Angel said. The moonlight shines through the windows, the doorknob almost gleaming like a beacon of hope.

In front of the door, however, is another creature. It, like the one before it, is a mass of tentacles, albeit larger. It raises a dull purple mask into the air, turning it left and right, as if peering around. When it falls on you, the tentacles draw back before flying toward you.

Flight or fight!
