Look around

Nate didn't know what to do. He started just looking in the surrounding area. He was cautious. He wasn't sure if the absence of people made him more or less nervous.

With none of his classmates in sight, he re-entered the main building. He walked down the hall and peered inside the window, discreetly. He did a quick take, peering in and moving his head back, his whole body ready to sprint away if anybody saw him. But there was nobody there. Maybe no one was in this classroom this period? What time was it anyways? Was it still school hours? The lights were on and it was light outside. Not too much time could have passed.

He checked a few other classrooms in the same way. The whole wing was abandoned. This was strange. There should be somebody somewhere. He kept relaxing with the bewilderment that he was alone, only to remember that he could encounter anyone at any moment. But no one came, and he came across no one. It was deathly quiet.
