Chapter 4
by deathofcards
Who do you talk with?
A moonlight drive
You decide to go and get a drink and talk with Darla. Darla was three years older than Heather and a college student. You can’t help wondering why Darla is here at her sister’s party, after all you’d expect here to be living it up at college. You wander over to her. There was little resemblance between the two sisters’s. Heather is a bubbly blonde, Darla a bit of a shy brunette. Darla was wearing a red halter neck top and a black skirt. She was a little taller than her sister and had short dark brown hair that was in a bob cut style. Her hair color highlighted her similarly dark brown eyes. She had quite elfin facial features her looks were quite captivating.
Darla was serving punch to a guy who you thought was on the football team. It looked like he was quite drunk and was giving Darla some hassle. You decide to step in and help her out. “Hi, Darla. Can I get a drink?” You ask. She turns her attention to you. “Sure John we’ve only got punch and it’s non-alcoholic unfortunately.” She replies smiling at you. She fills a clear plastic glass with punch and hands it to you. You take it from her gratefully returning her smile. By this point the jock has gotten bored and wandered off to hassle someone else.
“Thanks, John. I think he reckoned just because I’m at college it makes me a slut. He wasn’t taking no for answer.” She tells you. Her comment reminds of you what you just got her sister to do, you can’t help letting out a little laugh. “What’s so funny John?” “Nothing, just something from school I remembered.” You think changing the subject would be a good idea. “So why are you at your sister’s party?” “It’s my grandfather he’s really ill. My parents are with him right now. They didn’t want to miss sis’s big night but they really didn’t have any choice. So they asked me to chaperone the party to make sure nothing happens.” She informs you. “I’m sorry. With the way Heather is I didn’t think anything was wrong?” You reply.
“Yeah, that’s girls alright, she’s always better at putting on a brave face.” Darla tells you. A little tear falls from her left eye, she wipes it away with her hand and smiles at you again. “ I’m kind of bored here John, do you want to go and do something?” Darla asks you. “Sure, Darla what do you have in mind?” You reply, “Just take me somewhere nice. I just want to get out of here for awhile.” “What about Heather? You ask her. “She probably won’t even notice.” She tells you.
Darla heads towards the door and you follow her. You lead Darla to your car and act like a gentleman you open the passenger door for her. She thanks you and gets in. You get in the driver’s side and wonder where to take Darla. You decide to go to lookout point, which was about fifteen minutes drive from Heather’s house. The two of you sit there in silence for the journey. Eventually you get to the point, a small wooded glade, which overlooked the town’s lake at night. You park the car a few minutes from the lookout point.
Both of you get out of the car, you go to the trunk and take out an old red blanket. You take the lead and let Darla follow you up to the edge. There are lots of evergreen trees surrounding the area and there’s a small grassy patch next to a cliff edge providing a view of the lake. As you come closer to the edge you see that the lake catches the moonlight and gives off a silver luminescent haze. It is a truly magnificent view. You also know that people to come here and have sex without being discovered use lookout point. You wonder if many of those people actually took any notice of the view.
You lay out the blanket on the ground in front of you and Darla sits down on it. You sit next to her but not too close. “The view really is amazing here John.” Darla says. “You’ve not been before?” You ask. “Once several years ago. I’d forgotten just how beautiful it is here. Thanks for bringing me here.” Darla sighs.
The two of you sit there in silence taking in the vista. After awhile Darla breaks the silence. “So you’ve finished high school John. What are you going to do now?” She asks. “I hadn’t really thought about it that much. I’ve considered college but I’m not sure I’m ready just yet.” You answer. “Well there is a whole world of opportunities out there. Sometimes I wonder if college was the right choice for me.” She muses.
“Yeah I know what you mean. I’ve just got out of years of education and I’m not sure I want to spend the next few years of my life stuck in a class room.” You reply. “Yeah, there really are just so many different things we could be out there doing.” Darla replies.
“I wouldn’t mind traveling maybe go and see some of Europe or Africa.”
“I’d love to travel someday. I really want to see Venice it’s meant not be so romantic. You laugh slightly. “I never thought that kind of mushy romance stuff would appeal to you Darla.” You joke slightly. “Usually it doesn’t but it’s an experience, you know? It’s just somewhere I’d like to see.” “Maybe we should go off and see the world together.” You suggest
“Yeah, that would be pretty cool. I’ve been considering dropping out of college for a while. I’ve been thinking that I might not have made the right choice.” “We’ll if that’s what you want to do. Then maybe you should do it.” You tell her. “You might be right. I’m just worried what Mom & Dad will say. They’ve got all these big expectations of what they’re expecting me to do with my life.” Darla replies.
She shivers and you decide to get a little closer and put your arm around her shoulder. “Thanks John. This has been real nice. It’s help me to take my mind of things and put other stuff in order.” Darla tells you. “It’s ok Darla. I could see you weren’t enjoying yourself at the party so I was happy to take you somewhere beautiful like this.” You reply. “You know if you really did want to go traveling John I’d love to go with you.” She answers smiling at you.
You wonder for a moment if Darla could be attracted to you. You’ve always thought of her as attractive but the two of you are good friends and you’re not sure you want to ruin that. “That would be nice Darla. I’m not too sure what I want to do yet but I’ll definitely consider your offer.”
She doesn’t answer she just pulls you a little closer to her. Darla looks down and you wonder what she’s doing. “John we really should be getting back. We’ve been out a lot longer that I thought.” Darla tells you. She takes your arm off her shoulder and gets up, brushing a little dirt from her skirt. You pick up the blanket and shake all the dirt of it. Darla takes your hand and the two of you head back to the car. Just like before you open the door for her. “Your so sweet John.” she says as she gets into the car. You place the blanket back into the car and get in.
You drive back to the house the two of you talking about old times on the way. You get back and park the car back where you had before. After locking up the car the two of you head back inside. Inside you notice the throng of people from before has dissipated, you wonder if everyone’s gone home. “I wonder where everyone is John? Could you help me find Heather?” She asks. “Sure.” You reply. “Ok, you check up stairs and I’ll check down here.” Darla tells you.
She wanders into the kitchen where you had last seen Heather hours before. You do as Darla asked and head upstairs. As you get halfway up you can hear a lot of noise coming from one of the upstairs rooms.
What do you find upstairs?
