Yet another crossroads.
"Playground."
"For no reason in particular, I think there won't be any kids there. But they could leave one of the three keys to my boots in the sandbox. Please, let it be here and not the other door. I have no time to check both."
The door opened easily. It was all painted in bright color to keep the supposed visitor in a good and playful mood, but Jen's face expression remained serious. And tired.
There was a tube slide, a pair of swings, a huge box labeled 'Builder's Kit', all innocently-looking, but Jen marched towards the pool that was full of plastic balls, because, apparently, it was the snaps' epicenter.
"It's in one of the balls? Am I supposed to check each of them?!"
"Yes. Of course, if you insist on downgrading these gorgeous boots."
Jen sighed and descended into it. Just lying all over the surface did not give an immediate increase of the snap frequency.
"No, Jen, you have to dig all the way to the bottom. Do I even have the time that I'm spending? Maybe I'm still being pursued." — The girls checked one of the balls, then a second one. They all had keys inside, but only one was the correct one. — "God, this is going to take an eternity!"
Half an eternity later, however, she was still searching. Her boots snapped like crazy, but there were too many balls to count. Finally, she started to throw out the ones she already checked for sure. Her exhaustion was growing, but her concentration was not giving yet.
Too bad, because when she was throwing another pile of balls away, the girl caught a glimpse of something that was not there before. To be exact, these were three pairs of shoes: the goth platform boots, the slutty pinks and the thigh high stilettos.
Jen raised her head reluctantly. The three girls she passed stared right back. As Dolly did not have any eye openings, she figured that their headpieces were projecting the target directly to their brain. And she was the target.
Oopsies.
