wait and see

Connie was waiting for Alex to step away from his desk. After a few seconds without movement she sighed impatiently, clearly wanting to finish up Alex’ office and not happy having to wait with this warm weather.

Slightly panicking Alex didn’t know what to do. Stepping away now would mean that Connie would certainly see his method of distraction and he could miss all the fuzz that would cause.
He was working hard to get somewhere in this firm, not in the least to get away from this dump his boss called an office.
Alex remained transfixed in front of his screen where the slideshow now showed the blond giving some serious head to the guy when suddenly his screen blacked out.
Saved. His concern for the environment paid off in unsuspected ways. He had set the properties of his screenprotection so that of would switch off after 5 seconds without activity.

Relieved Alex stood up and moved away from his desk.

When Connie started to swipe, he let her know he went to get a fresh glass of (cooled) water while she was busy.
