Visitors

After breakfast you were given some time to rest up. At first you protested but soon enough you fell asleep, lost to the world as you dreamt about, of all people, your cousin. That you dreamt of Jessie wasn't so weird, as it turned out.

"John?" a female voice asked. It was Molly.

"Who?" you asked.

"Family" another voice said. It was Jessica. For a moment you were weirded out until you realised you must have heard her voice in the hall and your subconscious added that to your dream. Unless you'd gained superpowers, somehow. That seemed unlikely, though.

"I'll leave you guys be for now. John, if there's anything, just hit the button. It's on the right" Molly said.

You nodded your thanks and listened as Jessica came in. Another pair of footsteps joined her and something else. You couldn't make it out but then you heard a very familiar voice.

"Hi, big brother" Dawn said. You smiled and extended your arms. "Oh..uh" Dawn said. You heard that noise again. What was it?

"What?" you asked.

"Hmm?" Dawn replied as you heard some rattling.

"What is that?" you asked.

"My crutches" Dawn said. There suddenly was weight on your bed. For a moment you were confused but then you realised it was your baby sister. You felt her arms around you and her head on your shoulder. You hugged her tight and smiled.

"Aw, that's so cute" Jessica said. You heard her walk to the other side of the bed then felt her hug you before taking a seat.

"How are you?" Dawn asked. Then she let out a quick laugh. "Oh yeah, you can't reply. Sorry." You smiled and pat her back, letting her know it was okay.

"Better now that we are here, I bet" Jessica said. You turned your head towards her then nodded. It was nice to have your family here. Then you remembered Bec had said she'd bring Dawn.

"Bec?" you asked.

"Will you be quiet?" Dawn said. "You shouldn't talk so much. But if you must know, she's coming up. She had to park the car and told us to go ahead."

You chatted with your baby sister and cousin for a while, speaking single words now and then and getting admonished every single one of those times. Before long Rebecca showed up.

"Bec" you said, smelling her perfume before you even heard her speak.

"Hey, baby brother" Rebecca said. You grunted a hello but were scolded by Dawn immediately. You smiled at her and gave her shoulder a squeeze. Before long the conversation turned to nurse Molly.

"So, who's that nurse that let us in?" Jessica asked.

"That's nurse Molly. She's been taking care of John since yesterday" Rebecca said.

"She's his type" Jessie said.

"Hey, don't ruin it. I want him to be surprised when they take the bandages off" your big sister teased.

"I'm right here" you croaked.

"Shut up, you idiot" Jessica teased with warmth in her voice. You knew she didn't mean anything by it.

"Ring?" you asked.

"I'll take a look next time she comes in" Rebecca said. You could very well imagine she was grinning.
