Prepare for office hours

You head back to your office, and shuffle your work around, preparing for your office hours. Five minutes before the office hours are officially scheduled to start, you hear a knock on your door. You call for the knocker to come in, and come in she does. "She" is Suzie L., a first year student in the introductory course you just came from. You faintly remember grading one of Suzie's papers rather harshly, because she clearly had no idea what she was doing. You remember this, because she got the worst grade in the class, of the people who actually bothered to turn in a paper. She's either dumb as a rock, or doesn't see fit to turn her brain on when writing papers. She's not failing in the physical department, though, you notice; she is a very cute young Asian woman with short black hair and dark eyes, a small mouth and a slim frame. She walks in and sits down in one of the chairs on the other side of your desk.

"What can I help you with?" you ask. Suzie shifts her weight a little, then replies, "I can't fail this class. My parents will kill me. Is there any way I can rewrite this paper, or do any sort of extra credit?" You have a policy against giving out extra credit, one which you announced on the first day of class. Surely, Suzie knows that.

"You know that I don't offer extra credit assignments." Suzie looks very sad, like she's about to cry. "But it's so important," she says. "I'll do anything." She gets out of the chair, comes around your desk, and kneels down in front of you. "Anything." She stares into your eyes.

"Well ..." you think for a moment. "I'll let you think of an assignment that might be appropriate. Think of something, and come back at the end of my office hours, and we can discuss it then." Suzie smiles, gets up, and scampers out of the room.
