Chapter 5 by Frank89
different how?
Power outage
Shannon noticed the neon lights on the ceiling flickering for a moment, then go out completely. Total darkness engulfed the silent room.
"Great..." she sighed.
She waved her hand in the air, in case the lights were attached to a motion detector. She'd visited a little armpit of a moon once, where she couldn't take a piss without the lights turning off on her at least 8 times in less than 3 minutes. Apparently some places really did have a low budget.
But that was not the case now. Nothing happened. The lights were still off. It must have been some sort of outside interference. She'd heard about old places still using generators that could reset due to certain hyperdrive frequencies nearby, but she never could have expected that at a docking station. It was like those wheeled droids that couldn't use stairs. Totally useless.
Outrageous! As she stood there in the darkness waiting for the generators to reset, she was thinking about all the various complaints she would be filing once done with this scumbag planet. At least her position meant her complaints would be taken seriously. She'd gotten used to that over her years at the agency. Oh, her voice will be heard. This filled her with some content, even in her current situation.
And then the emergency lights turned on and the room was suddenly flooded in faint red.
"You gotta be kidding me!" she exclaimed.
Emergency lights were a clear sign of a total power outage - accidental or deliberate. That much, she knew. She had witnessed something similar during an impact event once. Were meteor strikes a thing on this planet? Or was this something else? Ionic storm maybe? Now she wished she had read the dossier, or at least skimmed it through. One thing was sure, this was not some short temporary interference. The station lost all main power and was using reserves.
And the emergency lights filling the room made her realize one other notable thing. That she was actually completely bare ass naked in the room. The thought sent shivers down her spine. She glanced nervously at the slot on the wall that had all her stuff sealed away.
