Pool Party

“Look who we found playing dress up in a neighbor’s house!”

The teenager nudged Jessica forward. Like a deer in the headlights, only wearing a loose bra and Care Bear panties, Jessica stared at a large gathering of adults and children.

“Cole, who is this?!” A woman shouted.

“Don’t ya see? It’s Jenny.” Cole responded with another nudge to Jessica. “Don’t be rude to Aunt Phoebe, say hi, Jenny.”

“Uh, hi.” Stammered Jessica, not knowing what to do next

“Cole, I’m right here, you goof.” A girl steps out of the crowd, who looks nothing like Jessica. Long blonde hair in pigtails and taller than Jessica by a few inches. “Let me guess, you thought Andy could tell the difference between me and her? Cole, you know that Andy is practically legally blind.”

“Shut up, Jenny!” Andy pushes Jenny, who pushes Jessica, causing her to trip and fall in a nearby kiddie pool. two kids inside, flail around, splashing her with water. Jessica was scatterbrained by this entire situation but a part of her felt happy. What a way to meet the neighbors, awkward but exiting. As she came to her senses though, she had to run back to the safety of her own house.

Rushing out of the kiddie pool, soaking wet, Jessica heard something that made her heart skip a beat. “Jessica? Jessica, is that you?” Not knowing who it was. Just hearing her named is enough to have Jessica make a mad dash to her house. She dodged her way through the crowd of adults, until she was snatched up and put back into the kiddie pool.

Two hours have past and after eating greasy grilled meats and veggies and meeting most, if not all of the neighbors, Jessica finally saw the opportunity to go home. Drying off with a towel offered by an apologetic Jenny, a smile formed across her face. “Mommy, can Jessica spend the night? It’ll be ridiculous for her to walk home in nothing but a towel.”

“Jenny, you’re so sweet.” Her Mother agrees “Of course it’s be ridiculous. Jessica, you’re staying here for the night, and that’s final.”

“But B-but I.”

Jenny cuts Jessica off. “Oh, that’s right. You can borrow my old pajamas, Jessica.”

Looks like Jessica had no other choice but to go along with what’s she’s dealt.
