Play a simple game of chance.

Kate ran to the back for a bit before coming back, a deck of cards in her hands.

"I know the boss keeps a deck of cards in the office." The "boss," as Kate put it, was the diner's owner and didn't come by often. "We could play a little game of chance."

"Here we go," Lucy muttered, quite accustomed to Kate's shenanigans.

"Oh, come on, Lucy, you'll love it, I know." Kate pleaded with Lucy. She reached out and grabbed Cassy's shoulder as if to present her as a gift. "Cassy will play too. Come on!"

"I'm in if Lucy is in." Cassy smiled awkwardly, uncertain how to refuse.

"Alright already, I'll play," Lucy caved before realizing she didn't even know what game they were playing. To remedy that, she asked, "So what are we playing?"

"It's a simple game," Kate explained, searching through the deck for a card of each suit. "You pull a diamond or heart card, you pass the turn. If it's a club, you get to pick the loser. But if you draw a spade, you lose yourself."

"Sounds simple enough. What are we playing for?" Cassy asked the big question, and Kate answered with her trademark impish grin.
