Chapter 5
by Zigurat
Taking Care of the Parents
Planned Parenthood
Gerald lay back on his bed. He was wondering what he would need to do about his parents.
His father, Robert, who was in his mid-fifties, was a workaholic. He wasn’t home much, even with being newly married. Robert loved his children, but to him, work always came first. He saw himself as the provider, the hunter for his family.
Which was why he had remarried after the **** of the children’s mother, Cybele. Robert had meant Brielle, his second wife, as a replacement of Cybele, to be a mother for his children. Katrina and Brielle meshed well together as they could converse issues concerning womanhood and they both enjoyed spending Robert’s hard-earned money.
Gerald didn’t think much of his stepmother. He had to admit to himself that she was attractive, but Gerald found Brielle to be vacuous and superficial. For a while, Gerald had wondered if his father had picked up a trophy wife, but seeing as how he was always working (even at home), Gerald doubted that was why his father had mothered the blonde-haired twit. He wondered if Brielle was after his father’s money instead.
Gerald had done some peaking into his father’s documents while his father and stepmother were on their honeymoon. He managed to find his father’s will and found that even after the revisions due to his Cybele’s **** and the marriage to Brielle the vast majority of the money his father had earned and saved would be left to Gerald and Katrina.
So Brielle would get nothing and Gerald could not see her as a replacement for his mother, whom he had loved. He had been despondent for a month after her **** and had visited with a psychologist several times to end his perpetual melancholy.
Gerald recalled how worried his father looked whenever he saw his old man during that month.
He really was distressed by my behavior, Gerald thought. He does love us. He just has a hard time showing it.
Gerald began to wonder how close Brielle was with his father. He knew that they went out in public together, but Gerald contemplated whether his parents were putting on a show. He recalled the squeaking bed springs that Gerald heard when his mother was still alive and there were none whenever Brielle and Robert were both home for the night.
Was it possible, Gerald thought. Could it be that my father has not had relations with his new wife? I have to find out.
Gerald grinned. It’ll make it easier for me if they haven’t consummated their relationship.
