Part Seventeen

Waking up in bed with Asa right beside him that next morning, Peter spent several minutes looking at the blonde, taking in how peaceful she looked asleep and thinking about how they spent all night fucking and making love and about how right it all felt. It was as he was thinking about this that Asa's eyes finally opened to see Peter staring at her.

"Something on your mind?" Asa asked.

"Just how right this is, being with you," Peter admitted. "It just feels so fucking right."

"It does," Asa agreed as she sat up. "But we still have to talk about it, about what it means..."

"I think you and I have talked about this plenty, especially over the last couple of days," Peter commented. "So, how about instead of talking about it for the millionth time, we just for once give in and just do it. Let's be together, see where this goes, one step at a time, together..."

"You're still leaving though." Asa recalled.

"That isn't set in stone and that's not happening until the girls graduate." Peter reminded Asa.

"And the girls? What do we tell them?" Asa said as she thought about their daughters. "It isn't like they're idiots. And Phoebe will take one look at us and realise what's going on..."

"Let's not hide it. You're right when you say they'll figure it out rather quickly," Peter told Asa. "We set their expectations and our own. That we're just seeing where this goes..." Peter sighed. "Is it me or are we thinking too much about this again?"

"Kind of." Asa giggled before taking Peter into her arms. "How about we stop thinking about it all and you join me in the shower and then we go break the news to the girls?"

"I like the sound of that." Peter smiled.

"Yeah, I thought you might," Asa grinned. "Come on, handsome."

Having a shower that ended with them having a lot of fun together, Peter and Asa eventually got dressed, made their way downstairs where they found Phoebe and Cindy already sitting at the table, talking aimlessly about some subject and content to leave their daughters to keep talking, Peter and Asa sat in silence as they had breakfast.
"Just make sure JJ realises who he's gonna be with," Phoebe told Cindy. "And make sure he knows what'll happen to him if he breaks your heart."

"I'm pretty sure he already knows," Cindy responded. "Everyone knows what you did to my last boyfriend..."

"I'm sorry, what?" Asa interrupted the girls.

"Oh right, I guess you haven't heard," Phoebe said to the two adults. "Our Cinds has got a date with JJ."

"Really?" Asa said in excitement.

"That's great, Cindy," Peter added. "JJ's a good guy like his Dad."

"I know." Cindy smiled.

"And now I guess I'm the single one," Phoebe commented causing Peter and Asa to look at her in surprise. "Of course we know, Mom was screaming the whole house down."

"Right," Peter sighed, Phoebe's words about being alone reminded him of their conversation the other day. "And you'll find someone too."

"Knowing you it'll be some European hunk or two when you're on vacation " Cindy teased.

"I'm sorry, what?" Peter said in confusion.

"I was going to tell you," Phoebe said before looking at Cindy and adding on. "Later on," Phoebe continued. "Naomi asked me to come on vacation with her. She had an extra ticket now that she and Matthias broke up and..." Phoebe paused as she noticed the annoyed look on her father's face. "You don't want me to go?"

"I don't want to stop you from having a relationship with your mother," Peter paused as he thought about what words he should use. "You're an adult and you should be able to decide for yourself who you want to keep in your life but what you and I know Naomi," Peter continued. "I just don't want you to get your hopes up about her. She's let you and I both down in the past..."

"I know Dad. I haven't forgotten," Phoebe responded. "You big softie. I know exactly who Naomi is and what to expect trust me."
