What Does Eric Need?
Paperwork
“I just need you to fill out some forms.”
“Which ones?”
“Cheryl will know. Just ask her.”
John nodded and scooted out of the office, leaving his two daughters behind. With their father gone, Jesse and Nicole looked at each other and shuffled nervously.
Eric gestured to the seats in front of his desk. “Have a seat ladies.”
Nicole led the way and sat down confidently, smoothing her skirt as she sat. Jesse followed timidly and crossed her legs as she sat.
Eric walked around his desk and sat down in his huge leather computer chair. “So,” he started, “what do you know about your father’s job?”
Jesse fidgeted, but Nicole piped up, “Not really that much.”
“Is there anything you’d like to know?”
“Well. Dad doesn’t really talk about his job at all.”
“So you really have no idea what it is he does?”
Jesse shook her head. “Nope,” said Nicole.
“Your father basically does whatever I need him to do in order to keep this hotel running smoothly.”
“Is that a lot of work?”
“Oh yes. It’s not very difficult though. I could actually replace your father with just about anyone.”
Nicole glanced at her sister nervously. “You aren’t planning on replacing him are you?”
“Why? Would that be so bad?”
“Well, my mom’s just lost her job. Right now Dad is the only one providing for us. And with me going off to college next year, we really need to income.”
“Don’t you have a job?”
“I wasn’t able to find one. This economy sucks.”
Eric nodded. “I’m sure if your father was let go, it would be very difficult for him to find another job.”
Nicole nodded. Jesse shuffled her feet.
“How about you, Jesse? Do you have a job?”
Jesse started at her sudden reinclusion. “Umm. No. I couldn’t find one either.”
Eric shuffled some papers around on his desk. “Would you two like jobs here?” He asked casually.
Do They?
