Chapter 12

How goes the party?
Pairing off.
It was no more than a couple of minutes before Jeff and Steve were back with the drinks. They’d brought a bottle of Midori and some cans of lemonade. Pouring the green liqueur out into plastic cups, the two cousins sat themselves down in front of Emma like a pair of puppy dogs watching their owner eating. The group settled in to get to know each other better.
The four boys were all locals. Robyn did her best to subtly turn her body towards Aaron and away from Matt. Emma seemed to be revelling in the attention she was getting from the two guys in front of her. Each of them competing for Emma’s sole focus. The buxom brunette had them eating out of her hand in no time. Sending them off to fetch more drinks when hers and Robyn’s were gone. Running to find some bags of chips when she mentioned that she was getting hungry and feeling a bit peckish. For the most part, they seemed happy to do it but as the night drew along and the boys had a couple of drinks each, they began to quarrel lightly with each other.
From her conversation with the handsome Aaron, Robyn learned that he was a heavy machinery operator for the local council. He drove the different machines that they used to build and repair the roads in the local shire. It was a good job he’d landed thanks to his dad who was on the local government council. Aaron had previously lost a good job before that for driving while intoxicated and losing his license. Robyn had been right before when she’d labelled him as a bit of a bad boy. The sense of danger and mischief about him doing much to repair the damage Jeff had done to her libido earlier.
Nothing seemed to dim Emma’s though. She was in her element. Playing two guys off against each other like a fiddle. Steve had finished school last year just like the girls had, Emma thought that was sweet that they had that in common. Until Jeff said that he was on his break until he started his final year at university and Emma found the older of the two more appealing. When she found out that Jeff was working at a vineyard, for the time being, she was impressed until she found out it was Steve’s dad, Jeff’s uncle, that owned it. Emma switched her praise to whichever of the two seemed the more desirable for her at that particular moment. And back and forth, back and forth.
The bickering between the two cousins was slowly becoming more and more heated until it suddenly erupted into shouting and then the two of them were rolling on the sand together. Flailing and kicking at each other ineffectually as they each tried to put the other in a sorry excuse for a headlock.
Robyn watched the display in rapt fascination. Emma’s influence on the two boys causing them to fight their very own flesh and blood. She wondered if they were always so prone to such displays. Robyn asked Aaron, “do they always fight like this?”
He hadn’t answered so that when she turned from the scuffle to Aaron next to her to see his response, Robyn was shocked to see that Emma and he were kissing. The break in the two boys’ attentions on Emma had given Aaron his moment to make his move on her. Robyn had thought that she’d get Aaron tonight but it seemed Emma had no qualms in choosing whoever she pleased.
“Looks like everyone’s pairing up,” Matt said, meaning that both Steve and Jeff were brawling, Emma and Aaron were making out and that left Robyn and him together.
Robyn swallowed her disappointment. “Yeah….”
The fight between the two lads hadn’t even stopped before Emma and Aaron excused themselves to disappear off into the night to do whatever. Both Jeff and Steve would be sadly disappointed when they came to their senses to find out. Matt had become even more twitchy and annoying. Trying to build up his courage to suggest he and Robyn go “take a walk”.
“You know if… umm… you wanted to…. umm… we could ahh…” he stammered out his attempt.
Robyn wanted so very much to just shut him straight down and continue on with her night. She was going to but then her mind went to the incredible experience she’d had with Cindy and Tate just by taking a risk. You never knew what might happen after all.
Robyn sighed and then stood up. Looking at Matt she said, “well? Come on. What are you waiting for? Hurry up.”
He was speechless and didn’t know how to move or answer. Robyn didn’t wait for him to recover his wits but started walking off into the blackness away from the fire. He’d either follow or he wouldn’t.
Robyn made sure she walked in a different direction to the one she’d seen Emma and Aaron go. She didn’t want to come across them in the dark by accident. She was disappointed enough at Emma pinching her guy, she didn’t want to have to witness it as well. She hadn’t got more than 20 metres away when she heard Matt jogging after her to catch up. He fell in step beside her and Robyn told him the rules before he’d even spoken again.
“I’m not sleeping with you, no matter what. So, you can get that out of your mind right now.”
“I wasn’t,” he’d gone to say but a glare from the little blonde surfer shut him up.
They walked further into the cool night air away from the fire before Matt spoke again. “So, what were you then?”
Robyn thought about it for another hundred metres before asking, “did you want to play a game?”
Emma and Aaron.
