Chapter 5
by Carmen_ford
Gerald practices the wishing phenomenon again and wishes for...
Packed bags
It was just a coincidence at breakfast? Right. I mean he couldn’t just wish for all his shit to be packed and it would be, could he? And then he noticed the bag. It was sitting by his bedroom door and it looked full. He had to grab something not to fall over. Did that just happen? I barely even thought it and it happened!
Gerald stood shaking, knees wobbling, one hand on the dresser. He finally allowed himself to sit hard on the floor. It was just coincidence, it had to be! He shook his head to make sure that he wasn’t still groggy from sleep and then convinced himself that his mother must have done it and he just didn’t notice the bag when he first came into the room. Yes, that had to be it.
He just needed some more coffee and it would all be okay.
The cup was just inches from his hand and he almost knocked it over as he leaned against the floor boards to left himself up. He jumped back a few feet as though the steaming cup of coffee were a poisonous snake. “Holy Shit!” he screamed. Now THAT wasn’t there before, it couldn’t have been. Was this really happening?
The doorbell rang and he realized that he had been standing staring at the coffee cup for some time. Long enough for Sam to make it over. Crap, how was he going to hide the fact that he was obviously upset? “Ah man! I need to get over this!” And suddenly, Geral was over it. He felt a sense of calm and confidence rush over him like a wave and he noticed that he was standing straighter than he ever had.
Sam came through the door and jumped on his bed. “Not a genius place to leave coffee she said, motioning to the cup on the floor. Are you okay? You look good enough to make me consider going straight,” she laughed.
That’s not a bad idea, you think, but then, you don’t have much time to be thinking those kinds of thoughts.
Does Gerald behave himself?
