Chapter 8 by Daylan Daylan

Fight Here or Take It Outside?

Outside! Outside!

The recovered Professor Oak sees the look on your faces and quickly ushers the two of you outside, giving you a few minutes to talk to your Pokemon and look them over. During that time you try to remember what you've read about Eevee. They were a Normal-Type Pokemon that were known for having some speedy attacks and the fact they were currently the only know Pokemon to have multiple forms of evolution, which was probably why they needed a lot of special care and attention, as the Professor said.

That was something to think about later, however, as Blue was set to go with his Pikachu so more formal introductions would need to be saved for later. Professor Oak looked back and forth between the two of you and nods. "This will be a one-on-one contest until your Pokemon is unable to continue the battle," he said, "Trainers ready... BEGIN!"

Thinking over what Normal-Type Pokemon tend to start with, you point a finger at the Pikachu and shout, "EEVEE! QUICK ATTACK!"

Eevee charged forward moving with an incredible burst of speed, baring down on the Pikachu... who dodged to the side almost effortlessly.

"PIKACHU," Blue shouts, "THUNDERSHOCK!"

You wince, expecting to see an erruption of light and energy an Electric-Type could put out. Instead, the Pikachu stands there, crossing its small arms across its chest and looking almost... smug. "Hey," Blue calls out in frustration, "I'm your Trainer! You're supposed to listen to me!"

The Pikachu stands there, still looking smug. Your Eevee recovers from its charge and turns back around. "Eevee," you call out, "Try again! I know you can do it!"

Your Eevee nods once and charges again at high speed. Once again, the Pikachu effortlessly dodges but this time counters by spinning around, trying to strike your Eevee with a Tail Whip. Your Eevee is smacked in the face and stumbles forward, crumpling to the ground for a moment before getting back up to its feet. "Okay Pikachu," Blue cries, "NOW use Thundershock!"

The Pikachu just continues to stand there, smirking up a storm. You can see what the Professor meant about it being "notoriously tempermental and hard to work with". Really, he and Blue were kind of perfect for each other that way. You kneel down next to your Pokemon, whispering, "I've got an idea. When I say 'now', can you use your Tail Whip?"

Eevee nods in reply and you marvel at how well Pokemon seem to understand human language as you stand back up. A fact Blue seems to be trying to make use of as he continues to yell at the Pikachu. "You think you're so tough," he snarls, "but you better listen to me because I can make you two thousand times better than you think you are!"

The Pikachu's response is to raise its nose and let out a dismissive sounding, "Chu."

"Okay Eevee," you say, "One more Quick Attack!"

Your Eevee charges once again but this time you pay careful attention to the Pikachu's movements and just as it begins moving to the side, preparing another Tail Whip, you cry out, "NOW!"

In mid-air, your Eevee twists to the side, its fluffy tail coming around and smacking the Pikachu hard in the face, causing its expression to twist into one of surprised shock. "Ugh," Blue groaned, "Listen to me! Thundershock!"

The Pikachu still refuses to listen to him and the next minute or so is you calling out the timing for your Eevee's attacks, staggering the once proud Electric-Type back and forth. From the look of it, all you'd need is one good Quick Attack to connect and you'll win!

Of course, the Pikachu might be getting **** enough to try something unexpected... like listen to Blue's commands.

So What Wins Out?
