Where to go from here?

Our father who art Martin

Sarah sat in an empty pew with Jill still holding her hand. What were they supposed to do now? Were they dating? Could they kiss again? Sarah thought about it but she couldn't do it at least not in a church. "So what now?" Jill finally asked. "I don't know, I really like you and-" "Sarah!" Sarah's blood ran cold, it was her father and she was angry. Had he seen them dancing together or worse their kiss? "D-daddy!" Her father approached the girls as Sarah stood to face her father. "You know you're not supposed to be here." Sarah nervously adjusted her pink dress "I'm sorry daddy but we didn't eat any of the food or anything." Her father seemed to mull it over in his mind. "I'll let it slide this time. Now who's this?"

Jill stood and offered her hand to Sarah's father. "I'm her roommate, Jill." His face seemed to soften as he took her hand. "Martin. I saw you caught the bouquet. Maybe I'll be the one to officiate your wedding." Sarah giggled she always had dreamed her daddy would be the one to marry her and her husband. She still hoped he would marry her but would he marry her and Jill? She knew she shouldn't think of such things being how sad the answer may turn out to be but she was forever the hopeful romantic and she honestly never felt this way about anyone. "That would be excellent." Jill lied, no sense getting into an argument about weddings from a man who just married a couple of lovebirds. Her father smiled, he had one of those faces that seemed to mutate with his emotions. When he was angry he looked like a beast but when he was happy he had the face of an angel. Like his daughter he was not meant for poker but he always said "An honest face is better than all the riches in Vegas."

"I have to stay here for a bit longer, you know to make sure they dont tear up the church or anything like that." He laughed though he made sure that anyone who married in his church would not be the type to do such a thing. Sarah knew she would pass the test, she wasn't sure about Jill. 'No! Girls can't marry each other.' She reminded herself. "But we can talk more later on." Sarah realized her father had been speaking to her while she daydreamed about her wedding. "Yes sir."

Her father wasn't kidding about watching the crowd which meant he wouldn't be anywhere else but the hall but Sarah was afraid if she went back to the reception she would dance with Jill again and if she stayed alone in the church Jill would want to talk about what happened and she might ask her to do more than kiss and God only knows if she could resist.
