Your training with Golduck went surprisingly well. When she’s not panicking, she actually fights really well. And, because of earlier, she’ll have to win on her own. That’s the best option.

“Golduck, ignore my commands! Don’t-”

Willpower Check: Failed

Yup. As soon as you looked at her eyes, you felt that rummaging around in your brain. This girl would even cheat just to win!

“Don’t do anything Golduck! Stand by!” you order.

Golduck is confused for a second, but manages to catch on. It ignores you and focuses on the battle.

“Wait, Golduck! Don’t ignore me! Concentrate on me, not the battle!” you’re **** to yell.

Your pokemon seems intent on ignoring you, yet all it does is raise its head slightly. It takes no other action. Given a free opening, Sabrina’s Kadabra just launches another Psybeam. But this time, Golduck barely reacts at all. It just… keeps its head raised, and lifts a finger to its chin. Is it trying to remember something? Ooh, ooh! You know what this is! It’s Amnesia! Good call!

“What’s Amnesia do!?” You can feel her probing your brain, trying to figure it out. Ha, this is actually kinda funny. A Gym Leader trying to look up answers in the middle of a battle.

“It’s just been a while since I battled for real, that’s all! I-I’ll just make it stop!”

Kadabra shoots two thin blue lines from its eyes. They wrap loosely around Golduck and dissipate, snapping your pokemon back to reality with Disable. Yeah that’s fine.

“Why is it fine? EMILIA! DON’T KEEP SECRETS FROM YOUR BEST FRIEND!” Wooow, she’s completely lost it. “NO I HAVEN’T!”

Golduck answers by charging at Kadabra. It’s met with a Psybeam, but Golduck effortlessly charges through the chromatic beam and hits with Aqua Tail. Kadabra quickly teleports away to avoid any more close-range attacks.

From all around the room, Kadabra launches Psybeams, but they have almost no effect on Golduck. She counters with Water Pulse, the water rings going around the beams and hitting Kadabra with much more impact. That’s to be expected, considering Amnesia increases special defense. Combined with being Psychic-type herself, Golduck would take almost no damage from Psybeam.

“So that’s what it was doing! Kadabra, teleport in and use Psycho Cut!”

As commanded, Kadabra teleports in and attacks. It’s fast! The Psycho Cut lands, but Psyduck exchanges blows with Aqua Tail. In the end, Golduck withstands the attack just like every other Psychic move, but Kadabra falls over.

Sabrina cocks her head. “I… lost?”

Phew. It’s a good thing you left things to Golduck, otherwise that cheating Gym Leader would have tricked her into losing the battle! As Sabrina stares off into the distance, you can feel her influence leaving your mind. You’re relieved, until you see her lumbering towards you like some grief-stricken zombie.

“We’re still best friends. We’re still best friends! That’s why you’ll stay here. That’s why we’ll always be together. Right, Emilia? RIGHT!?”

So that’s the attitude she’s taking, huh? You’ve always been a girl of your word, and you’ve always respected the rules, even when they meant suffering unmentionable things for losing. But Sabrina doesn’t seem to care about any of that. She’ll throw a match, or even mind control challengers, all for the sake of getting what she wants. The first time you beat her, she molested you and took your badges, and now that you’ve beaten her a second time, she’s acting like she’ll get what she wants anyway. Something about a Gym Leader who disrespects the rules of pokemon battles just… pisses you off.

“Stop,” you command.

She stops dead in her tracks. “Emilia? Uh, you’re not mad, are you?”

“I am mad. I hate you.”

Color drains from her face, and her eyes dull from a radiant red to an ashen black. Gah, scary. “Hate…? My best friend hates me…?”

“I hate girls who don’t honor their word. I’d never be best friends with a liar, or a sore loser who didn’t obey the winner when she lost a pokemon battle.”

The defeated Gym Leader drops to her knees, her aura completely changed. “I’m sorry! I-I’ll do anything! I don’t want my best friend to hate me!”
