Chapter 17

Is Outplacement helpful?
Only for training
Mary Bonnett looked about twelve years old... probably a case study in the replacement of experience with 'flexibility.' He was pretty sure she was at in her early twenties but the way she dressed... in what could have been a schoolgirl uniform skirt and white blouse, Rick figured she was going for the teenage look. Clearly she'd bought into the model of getting low-cost kids to do the work and fire anyone who might actually want to get paid. He didn't need his bio-DNA augmentation to see the combination of pity and contempt she held for him as he walked into her office. Both grew as she read over the draft resume he'd put together while he'd waited.
"We can't use any of this," she said. "It violates your non-disclosure agreement."
"I don't see why it should be a problem," he said. "After all, bio-DNA has been released so there aren't any business secrets there and the marketing campaign has been fully implemented. I'll make sure to give Pete more credit than he deserves and I was the marketing manager who worked on it even if I'm not allowed to admit that I was the one who came up with all of the ideas."
"You can't because the company says you can't." Her vital signs indicated she thought she was talking to someone who was a little slow in the mental department.
"You're telling me that the company won't let me put any of my experience and successes on my resume? Without that, how can I expect anyone to hire me?"
"First of all, you're thinking about this wrong. Hiring managers are looking for people with flexibility. You go in claiming all kinds of successes and they'll see someone who is set in their ways, who won't listen to coaching, and who's a glory hog who won't be a team player." Her face flushed as she talked, the tiny tits hidden beneath her white school-girl blouse heaving with passion.
"Got it. So I say I'm just some kid who's willing to help the company get ahead, downplay my experience, and don't put any salary demands on the table and I'm ready to compete with those fresh out of school kids coming on the market?"
She smiled at him as if he were a star student. "That's it."
What it was was bullshit. What it also was was clear proof that the company's outplacement plan was a sop, just as his new bald friend Mark had claimed. The way Rick figured it, that left only one option.
What was the option?

Fired
Hacking a new Future
Rick Peters is a marketing manager for a bio-tech company and thinks his future is made with the success of his latest marketing campaign. Instead, he's fired--the company wants to bring in younger, cheaper talent. Thanks to non-compete agreements, Rick's career options aren't good and thanks to his long-time dedication to the company that just shafted him, Rick doesn't have much of a love life to fall back on, either. Rick has to make some choices and some changes to his life. He can pursue , try to make his own millions, or even search for personal fulfilment. One thing is certain, if he doesn't do something, he'll quickly end up homeless and on the street.
