On the bus homeward from the road trip

Gary watched Bernie sleep, her head turned away toward the window of the bus. It was dim in the bus, with only a couple of reading lights lit, and dark outside the window as the bus drove through the night, on a highway far from any cities.

She moaned faintly in her sleep, then sighed and settled down.

Gary dozed. He startled awake when Bernie gasped and moved beside him.

Gary turned his head and leaned toward her. Bernie turned toward him and caught him in a hug. Her cheek was wet with tears. Her shoulders quivered with sobs.

"Did you have a bad dream?" he said.

"Yes," she said. "Would you leave me if you caught me with an old girlfriend?"

"No, never," Gary said. "As long as you still wanted me. Were you dreaming of Habiba?"

"Yeah. You two were fighting over me and Habiba's mom was screaming too," Bernie said.

"I would still love you," Gary said. "I know you miss her. And it would be pretty unfair of me, you know?"

"Haha, yes," Bernie said. She rubbed her cheek against Gary's. "Old girlfriend. At least you know how to share." They had just spent several weeks as lovers to Gary's grandmother after Bernie had caught Nana giving Gary a handjob in the back of Stuart's Super Surf Van. Bernie's hair was still in the thick braids tied with red cloth that Nana had done up for her.

"Yeah. That was good. Together," Gary said.

Bernie's breathing eased and deepened. "I love you, Gary," she said.

"I love you too," Gary said, holding her close.

"Do you want to find a way to keep sharing, like on the trip?" Bernie said.

"Yes," Gary said. He whispered into her ear. "Very yes. I love seeing you eat pussy so much."

Bernie sighed. "Yes," she said. She put her lips to Gary's ear. "And seeing your penis going into Nana. I feel it inside."

"Oh," Gary said.

"I liked working on Dubois together, getting him ready," Bernie said. "I loved knowing you were tasting and feeling the same penis I was. How you closed your eyes when you were sucking on him. Was he your only one after Peter?"

"No. Stuart and Trent," Gary said.

"Trent?"

"Just a couple times. One of the surf guys," Gary said. "He's Stuart's butt boy."

Bernie giggled. "Really?"

"Yeah, really, kinda, actually really," Gary said. "Though Stu told me Trent's got a girlfriend now."

"Good, I guess," Bernie said. "Unless he got your old one."

"Sharon and Trent together would be five kinds of terrible," Gary said. "But they'd keep each other busy."

They held each other quietly, breathing together.

"Sharing," Bernie said.

"Yeah," Gary said.

"We'll talk more when we get back."

"For sure," Gary said. A whirl of images came into his mind. "I love you so much."

They drifted off to sleep again as the bus rolled through the night.
