On the Kingsroad

Ned and Robert rode out of Winterfell at the front of the long royal column, carried on strong northern warhorses. Cersei Lannister and the royal family followed, housed in a lavish carriage painted red and gold. Ned's own household guard followed, escorting his daughters Sansa and Arya, and their wolves.

"It is a fine thing isn't Ned?" Robert said. "I do not know, my liege, King's Landing will not suit me," Ned replied. "I know old friend. But I need you. There's a war coming. Don't know when, don't know where, but I need your help."

"What would you have me do?" Ned asked, his brow furrowing. "Find out who our true allies are in King's Landing. Seeing as you're new to the court, I would think people will begin to show their cards rather quickly. But be careful. It'll likely start soon, during the journey." Robert said, quietly, glancing at the Kingsguard riding nearby.
