Ducking into another classroom, Alice snuck under the teacher’s desk and brought up her white encased knees to her chin. She waited as two voices could be heard entering into the room. They sounded the same as each other and breathless as if they’d been running. Clicking heels suggested that they were trapped in the same kind of shoes, Alice was wearing. One of the girls spoke up, and Alice recognized her soprano voice immediately. It was Katie. The other girl must have been her twin sister Kathy. Katie’s voice was breathy and nervous, “I’m not sure what is happening. They must be torturing Kirsten.”

“Shhh, keep it down,” Kathy shot back as she closed the door to the room. “What if they hear us? We’ve gotten lucky so far. We don’t want to end up like Amy or Tabitha did.”

Alice peeked her head over the edge of the desk and saw both of the girls sitting on desks their legs modestly crossed. Katie was her best friend, and right now, Alice needed all the help she could get. However, what if her friend betrayed her. Alice tugged at her hands trapped behind her back. She was in position to fight back if Katie had different ideas about how to help her. If she didn't approach them for help though, Alice would remain bound as she was anyways. Either option was bad, but which one was worse?

The sound of Kirsten screaming for help echoed through the room along with the constant thud of a body being slammed into a wall. Alice watched as both Katie and Kathy shuddered at the noise.
