Chapter 14

Some very satisfying hours later, the sun rises.
Okay… we have to talk.
Dawn catches the three of you laying on the lounger. The twins have just fallen asleep, that last rut being definitely the last. Aura or not, there are limits to what a human body can take before shutting down. And they’re absolutely adorable cuddling you with that defenceless expression in their faces.
Pity you don’t really do sleep anymore, because catching a nap between them sounds really good about now. Oh, wait, almighty God, you can do that. So you do. Good night.
[…]
It’s not until noon the twins begin stirring, shaking you out of your ‘sleep’. The first to open her eyes is Miltia at your right, blinking a couple of times before smiling shyly. “Hey.”
“Hey yourself, beautiful.” You answer with a smile of your own. “Did you sleep well?” Her only answer is to kiss your cheek and snuggle closer.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” You laugh.
For a while you remain like that. Miltia sticking close on one side while Melanie snores softly on the other. The good thing about Miltia, you reflect, is that you don’t really need to make conversation with her. There’s no sense of awkwardness as the two you simply let some time pass while waiting for Melanie to wake up too.
When she does though, she doesn’t make any effort to let us know, so you have to call on her. “Wakey wakey, sleepyhead” Then, noticing the slight gloomy feeling about her you ask. “Feeling sore anywhere?”
At first, she doesn’t say anything. “You know?” Said sleepyhead finally speaks. “Mum told us the first time would leave us all sore and we wouldn’t be able to get out of bed the next day. But I’m feeling perfectly fine.”
“That’s… good, isn’t it?”
“Well... yes.” She makes a frustrated noise. “But we’re supposed to have the perfect excuse for breakfast on the bed. I feel cheated.”
Well, that gives you an idea. “Dear, I really see no reason not to have the best of two worlds.” You’ve already established teleporting as your semblance, so there really isn’t any reason not to make a wooden tray appear with a snap of your fingers. A tray filled with pancakes, coffee and orange juice.
“You can also teleport things to you!?” She makes a show of taking in the smell, before turning her eyes to you, hand painfully grasping your shoulder and a solemn expression on her features. “Stud, Your semblance is bullshit.” Then, releasing you to reach for a cup with a smile. “But you are the best.”
“Still not enough to deserve a morning kiss, it seems.” Mouth already busy sipping from the mug, a flipped finger is all the answer you get.
Breakfast is a subdued, but pleasant affair. Both girls are obviously deep in thought and it’s not too hard to figure out what’s going through their minds. They’ve just both lost their virginity to mind-blowing sex with a guy they’d only met hours before, after all. That they’re a bit worried about what comes now is a no brainer.
It also mean you should probably go ahead with your plan and tell them. It wouldn’t be nice to string the two of them along, after all. Still, you hesitate. Sure it’s been your plan from the very start to get a harem. And to get the twins more involved in the plot of the show. But you had expected it to take a bit longer. As in barely making it on time for Beacon. You’re not quite mentally prepared to tell the two beauties at your side they’re not enough for you.
Then again you also planned on working from Junior’s club, and that plan is kind of scrapped now. There’s a reason you didn’t go the all-knowing all-powerful route, and that’s because life is more interesting when things don’t go according to plan.
Taking a deep breath, you steel your resolve. Not point in procrastinating…
“Okay, we need to talk.”
“Here’s when you drop some empty platitudes before taking us back to Junior’s and ask for our numbers to ‘call us later’, but we never hear from you again, right?”
Uh… okay, that was so out of left field it leaves you speechless for a second. Then again, maybe you should’ve expected it. I mean, two girls who make a living alternating between being ogled at and beating up drunkards suddenly get picked up by a guy who reserves the rooftop of an expensive hotel in another friggin’ kingdom for them, throws money around like it’s going out of style and when everything is said and done, gets all nervous and wants to ‘talk’.
Yes, maybe their conclusion isn’t all that unexpected. Good job not thinking about it, genius.
“No, that’s not it.” You sigh, this can only complicate things even further. “Let’s start with the good news, okay? How would you like enrolling in Beacon for this coming year?”
You can practically see their gears turning as they process your words. First there’s a moment of shocked incredulity, then a pause as the twins reroute their brains followed by exchanged glances that you’re sure hold an entire conversation. Surprise, thrill, incredulity and suspicion. Finally, Melanie -of course it’s Melanie- breaks the silence, piercing you with a calculating glare.
“Why?”
“I want people in Beacon, you want to study there. I’d say it’s a match made in Heaven.” You have to hold back a grimace at your horrible godly pun. “Also, borrowing Miltia’s words, I like you. I like you a lot. So, are you in?”
“Are you kidding? We’ve dreamed of this for years!” Miltia is busy trying to bury her face on your arm, hopelessly embarrassed you just quoted her on that but, in spite if her enthusiastic voice, Melanie is obviously not sold just yet. “What’s the price?”
Well, that’s the question you’ve been both dreading and waiting for. There’s no point in mincing your words here, so you go for brutal honesty. “Be mine.”
Your proposal is, quite understandably, met with silence. No doubt they understand all the implications of those two word. It’s kind of a relief you won’t need to get into details, even if it takes a good while for Melanie to compose herself enough to arch a brow and find her voice back.
“Oh, great. Have to admit never heard that one before. Are you going to put a collar around us?”
“I have something better for all involved in mind.” With an exaggerated thoughtful gesture, you add. “The collar is more of an optional thing, really.”
“Great, because I’m very particular about my jewelry.”
“You know? Out of all the things I expected you to protest from an invitation to join a secret organization/harem, my potential choice in marks of ownership ranks pretty low” You make a ‘work with me here’ kind of frustrated gesture. “As in, buried under all the objections against polygamy?”
“Nah, we don’t really have a complaint there. You lucked out, stud.” She has the gall to laugh at my very understandable confusion. “Sharing is something Miltia and I had to consider before, that with our semblance. Refusing to add more girls to the mix would be a bit hypocrital. As long as you can handle all of us without anyone feeling neglected, of course.”
Somehow, those words have an ominous ring in your ears. “...Right, I’ll do my best.” Then the rest of the information sinks in. “What’s that about your semblance?”
“It’s a bit of an esoteric one.” She says dismissively, with a touch of self-depreciation. “If we wanted to be poetic about it, we’d say we are two girls sharing two souls, as opposed to two girls with a soul each.”
You blink once, then twice. “Don’t you mean two girls sharing a soul?”
“I mean what I said, stud.”
That sends your head spinning as you try to figure out the logistics. “How does that even work?”
“We have two souls, but they aren’t one for each.” She explains as if she’s talking to a first grader. I’m probably making the right face too.
“A bit like metal atoms share electrons” Miltia, who has kept silent until then, explains.
“Oh. No offence, but that’s not the kind of example I was expecting out of you two.” She punches me in the shoulder, her sister punches the other one.
Aura sharing, probably emotions too, since they’re so intertwined with the soul. With time and training they probably could even manage true telepathy. Also, Melanie apparently has a poetic side… and Miltia a nerdy one, hidden somewhere in there.
“And that’s why I want you.”
“Bullshit, you just learnt how our semblance works.”
“Not that.” You answer with a nervous laugh, to be honest you’re not sure what the hell you’re doing. Since nobody’s tried to kill you yet, you keep going. “It’s because you are more than pretty faces. And more than dumb muscle too. You girls are smart and sensible, and are awfully cultivated for the lifestyle you carry out, specially for being self-taught.”
“Hey, just because we work amongst idiots doesn’t mean we want to be idiots too. We take online courses, and work hard on them.”
“My point exactly.”
“Why go through so much work for the two of us?”
“I told you. I like the both of you and want you to be mine.”
“Possessive aren’t you?”
“That I am, but I take good care of my girls.” As she shoots questions, you can’t help but notice how she gradually relaxes. “You are free to bow out later on. As long as you’re upfront about it, you’d be surprised how understanding I can be.”
“I don’t know stud. That’s a lot of commitment you’re asking out of the blue...” She’s still **** to compromise. On the other hand, her sister seem very much for the idea.
You decide to risk it a bit and, with your best put out voice, you make a show of giving up. “Well, if you’re not interested…”
Before you know it, there are five red-polished nails digging at your shoulder. “Wait! I’ll do it!”
Melanie is not amused. “Damnit Miltia, he was bluffing! Don’t just fold like that!”
You can’t help but laugh at that. “Fine, fine… I guess this is a bit sudden. How about we just enjoy each other’s company for now? There’s more than enough time for you to think about it before Beacon’s school year starts.”
After that, you finally realize you’re still sticky with last night’s… let’s say sweat. Somehow the situation devolves into a three-way shower where sponges are forbidden and hands are optional. It’s fun, and it only takes you a couple of hours to decide you’re clean enough.
Since the twins haven’t accepted your offer yet, though, they have to ask for a lift back to Vale when Junior calls. There’s no chance to do anything else.
Your plans are kind of on hold for the time being, but you have a good feeling about this. While Melanie is the outspoken one, you have the distinct impression Miltia gets her way when she actually bothers trying. Between you and me, chances are she’ll follow you to the depths of Hell.
Now that you can finally focus in something else. There are some questions you’re dying to ask.
God? Are you there?
