Chapter 12

Any effect?
Oh, yes!
The oversized black pill stuck in his throat on the way down and Rick had to swallow about four times before he finally got it past his esophagus.
He got into his car and sat waiting. All of the reports he'd read said it took some time for the virus to spread through a body, finally reaching the brain where it did it most significant interventions. He didn't have any particular plans or schedule, though. He'd wait as long as it took.
About four minutes after swallowing the first pill in the series, his stomach made a gurgling noise and nausea threatened to overcome him.
He unfastened his seatbelt and swallowed back down the bile accumulating in the back of his throat. This was his only hope for a second life and barfing it up was not happening. At least it wouldn't happen if he had anything to say about it. Since it was his body, he figured he should have at least something of a say.
Another spasm sent a mouthful of puke into his mouth. Shit.
He gritted his teeth and swallowed it back.
For the next hour, he convulsed in his seat, his body alternating between sweating and shivering. His eyes felt as if they were growing in their sockets and blood trickled from his tear ducts. He orgasmed three times which was a little embarrassing, and his nose and armpits seemed to have turned into fountains. It was, as bio-DNA's patients had assured him, painful, disgusting, and intrusive.
At the end of the hour, something in his brain shut down and he slumped forward, bashing his bleeding nose on the steering wheel before slipping into unconsciousness. His last thought--if I puke now, I'll suffocate on my own vomit. This was definitely not the way he'd wanted to go.
Does he wake up?
