Off to sell charcoal.

Tanjiro awakes in the warm embrace of his mother. Not wanting to wake her up, he sneaks out quietly preparing to go sell charcoal to the town.

He has to make this trip weekly, to make money for the family. Tanjiro departs from their home and travels to the town to sell charcoal. While he's there, he helps various town peoples with their problems, and by the time he was done, it was already nighttime. Tanjiro starts to head back home until an elderly man stops him in his track.

Saburo, he was an elderly man who he has bought charcoal from him before. "You shouldn't travel around at night, Tanjiro. Man-eating demons are roaming the night".

"But I have to go-"

"No buts! Come inside right now" Saburo retorted as he pulls you into his home. Tanjiro decides to rest there for the night as he's sure his family is doing fine without him for a day. Morning arrives and he continues his walk back to his house. However, as he sees his house, he suddenly smells something...Like blood. As he rushes in closer to look he finds his house filled with blood splatters.

"No...Mom...Hanako!", he cries as he caresses their mutilated bodies. Then he realizes Nezuko isn't here so with the fleeting hope that she is still alive he goes off to look. He finds Nezuko laying on the snow, her being still being warm to the touch.

"Who did this to you Nezuko?", intending to save his dying sister. Tanjiro carries his sister through to the snow in an attempt to reach the top for some medical assistance.

As he is rushing, he eventually slips and falls dropping Nezuko. As he gets up to pick up the fallen Nezuko, he soon realizes something is wrong as Nezuko jumps on top of him, her eyes no longer human-like. As Tanjiro tries to fend her off, a man wearing a Haori attempts to slice Nezuko's neck. Noticing this Tanjiro pulls Nezuko out of the way.

He pleads to the stranger not to kill her, but the man in haori clothing simply responds with "She is no longer human, her blood has contaminated with demon blood. She will eat any human... Including you..."

"I can cure her! Please don't hurt her"

The man ignores his pleas and stabs into Nezuko, Tanjiro quickly tried to run in and saves her but easily gets knocked out by the man. As this happens, Nezuko breaks out from the man's grasp and runs to Tanjiro's **** body seemingly protecting him.

The man in haori kimono was stunned by this sight and waits for Tanjiro to wake up. The man reveals his name being Giyu and continues talking.

"If you want your sister to have a chance of living you got to see a man named Sakonji Urokodaki at the foot of Mt. Sagiri, and once you find him inform him that I sent you. Additionally, make sure your sister is never exposed to the sun" then as quickly as he came, the man left. Leaving Nezuko and Tanjiro alone.

Nezuko and Tanjiro return home to bury their family. Tanjiro crying heavily, while Nezuko can only watch with a sad expression on her face. Tanjiro wanting to save his only family member left, ventures forward to try to find a cure for Nezuko.
