Off to film

In about two weeks, we were both contacted and told that we were setting off to New York to film the movie. I’d never actually been to New York before, so this would be an exciting trip to me for even more reasons than the movie and Chloë.

We traveled to the airport together, where we met the rest of the movie’s actors, including Chloë’s main costars: Michael B. Jordan, Tom Holland and Oscar Isaac, who formed her team, and Sebastian Stan, who was their main opponent. All of them were very kind and polite when meeting me, and I loved the idea of this opportunity to finally properly get to know these people who I’d only been running around behind before as a not-very-important crew member. The weirdest and probably most exciting experience, though, was meeting the director of the movie, Michael Bay. I had largely grown up on his movies, so meeting him in real life was really cool.

We arrived in New York and were driven to our hotel, where Chloë and I had a room together. “That was a really fun trip. I still can’t believe this. I’m in a movie with all these people…” – I said, falling back onto the bed. Chloë came over and lay down next to me. “Yeah, it must be a really exciting experience for you. It is for me too – I’m in a movie with you!” – she said, turning to me and stroking my cheek.

The filming was pretty intense for me as someone who had no previous experience of it, but I felt like I was managing it all well. Weeks passed, but I didn’t really even seem to notice. It was constantly in and out of filming. Both me and Chloë had underestimated the significance of my character in the movie – I didn’t even realize how many lines I had in the face of my excitement about the audition. So I was involved much more than I had first thought. And even when I wasn’t directly involved, I was there to watch Chloë’s scenes get filmed. We went out on the town once every week or two, sometimes with the other actors, sometimes just by ourselves. It was a surreal process, and I didn’t even notice how long it had taken.

I remembered the start of production, and the next thing I remembered – three months had passed, and it was the last day. When the standard “That’s a wrap, guys!” was said, I felt sad that this process had come to an end. We all flew back to LA together, then said our goodbyes and each went our separate ways. Now it time for the editors and the rest of the team that didn’t directly involve us to do their magic, and the movie would be ready to go.
