Chapter 7 by kronos204 kronos204

Does Sheila believe him?

Of course not

Sheila knows the story is ridiculous. This has to be another aspect of his delusion. But visual hallucinations? That's worrisome. She looks at him, scanning for signs of ****, but doesn't see any besides his obvious agitation, and that can be explained by what he really seems to believe. That's probably upsetting enough to warrant this level of agitation. "Alright, I'll believe you, but only if you can prove it to me. Change something. If you show me a change, I'll totally believe you, but if you can't show me, you'll have to agree that it's not real, okay?"

His head jerks up in fear. "I can't! I have to hold it all back. I can't change anything or it'll all go wrong. I'll give in."

"You can do it for me, can't you? Your one exception to your rule. You can make one exception, and then I'll believe you and we can move on. Doesn't that sound okay? Do we have a deal?"

John weighs his options. "Fine, just one, and just because I need one person to believe me." He looks around the office. "Okay, every time I've changed something, I'm the only one that remembered how things used to be. Maybe because I'm changing the world in the past, not the present. Tell me, what color is the carpet?" She looks at him suspiciously. "Please, just say it out loud. Maybe that'll help."

"Tan."

"Okay, now look again."

"I don't see your point."

"No, it changed! What color is it?"

Dr. MacIntyre sighes. "John, what do you want me to say? It's green, just like it's always been." John practically growls in his frustration. She reaches across and puts a hand on his shoulder. Some patients responded well to physical contact, some did not. John always has. "Look, maybe you saw a different color before, but I didn't. This means you'll have to agree, at least on the surface."

His teeth are bared and his words come out strained through them. "Fine, I'll pretend I'm just crazy and let you treat me that way."

"I told you not to use the c-word. You're not crazy, you just need help, like we all do. Now, I think a lot of this is stemming from your desires. That's how you said you think it works, right? You just want something enough? So let's talk about your desires. Lay back and close your eyes so you can really focus on what you want. Maybe we can work out ideas for how to get it in a more constructive way."

Does he go along with it?
