Not the right time

I wanted to tell her about how I saw her and Billy in the Home Depot but it didn't seem like the right time.

"How did you get over it?" Rene asked.

"I just realized that Mandy still loves me. I know she does. What we did and what we might want didn't change that. At the end of the day, we are dedicated to each other first and I shouldn't have doubted that."

"It can be difficult," Rene said.

"Was it ever difficult for you and Billy?"

"No," Rene answered. "But I can see how things could get complicated. I'm glad you're better now."

"We're better than we've ever been," I said with a smile. Rene smiled back.

"Besides," she said, nudging me on the elbow. "You have nothing to be insecure about."

Rene shot me a sly grin as she turned the volume of the radio up and we spent the rest of the car ride bobbing our heads and making a bit of small talk about where we grew up. Rene was from the city and spent most of her life there. It wasn't until she met Billy that she even considered living in the suburbs but now they had a beautiful house on top of a hill in a fancy neighborhood and she said she'd never move back to the bright lights and tall buildings of the city.

"I don't know how I ever put up with it," she said with a laugh. "Being young and thinking you're cool is a powerful feeling."

"I don't think I've ever considered myself cool," I joked.

"I think you really underestimate yourself," Rene said. I couldn't help but beam.

We pulled into the driveway - a long winding driveway that elevated up the hill past some stone retaining walls and large, well-trimmed hedges. At the top sat their house which had to be twice the size of ours. It had a towering rooftop with large windows and uplighting that showed it off to the entire neighborhood. Rene barely let me put the car in park before she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. She started walking toward the house when she noticed I was still sitting in the driver's seat.

"Are you coming or not?" She asked.

"Well, I didn't want to assume..." I replied with a shrug. Rene stormed over to the car, opened the door, grabbed me by the shirt, pulled me out of the car and kissed me. Hard. Then she let me go and began walking back toward the house again. This time, I quickly followed after her.
