"Just a moment," Humanite replied, irritated a bit from his cohort's impatience. Suddenly, the alarm went off with bright, spinning red light throughout the entire room. "What now?"

"Backup, no doubt." At that moment, Humanite said to enact their plan as he wheeled the device to the service elevator, on his way to the loading bay up above. And that left Shade to fend off the unwanted company coming; he smirked as he pushed his circular sunglasses into place.

As soon as you and Hawkgirl made it, you both found Shade all by his lonesome, leaning on his thin, black cane in the middle of the room; the red light gave way to the cerulean blue of the lab, repeating the pattern. "All right, shadow man," Shayera demanded. "Where's the brains of your outfit?" You ignored that 'shadow man' comment, despite the seemingly insulting connection towards your hero name.

A mysterious figure peeked out within the shadows of a tiled pillar in the room...

"Afraid his hands are full at the moment," he retorted. "Please stay a while. We have much to discuss." He lightly banged the end of his cane to floor, creating a large ring of darkness around us. As I looked around, Hawkgirl just smirked at him.

"Your magic trick won't stop us." She flapped her long, grey wings to hover in the air, and you posed to look ready for a boxing match.

"We thought so..." Shade chuckled. What was he talking about? 'We'?

At that moment, you and she heard a short puff of air. And a split second later, Shayera felt something sharp pierce her neck, quickly pulling out... a tiny dart!
