Chapter 14
by TMJ2008
Is the reptillian babe in the crowd or are you gonna have to do some more looking?
Not in the crowd, but not far, it seems.
You don't see the reptillian face in the crowd as you scan it, but you don't discount the idea that she's somewhere around just yet. After all, this was a gang of mercs and mercs didn't fuck around on the Junk Moon unless they were sure about things. There were too many other bands of mercs , crime lords and one big gang to fuck with if they did. The Junk Moon, in its way, was a self-governing and policing world, if you called making sure people were too scared of being killed in brutal and painful ways to fuck around governing and policing. It worked though, for the most part, so nobody questioned it.
That's why you were sure that, though you didn't see her among the other prostitutes in the Siren, she was here somewhere. The only question was where. Actually, no, the other question was why did you care, now that you thought about it.
It was true that people causing trouble in the Siren was sort of your business since you did spend a lot of time here when you were on the Junk Moon, but this girl's life wasn't any of your business. You hadn't shot up these bastards here for her, but because they would have killed you if you hadn't. That and they fucked with one of your favorite places to hang out and the sex-droid you'd had the distinct pleasure of fucking a short time ago. It had all been personal so, really, there was no need to get involved with any of this, was there?
You were just about to decide that that was indeed the case and you should probably just forget the whole thing when you hear the whir of circuitry humming to life and you turn to see that Evie has been brought back online. You smile at that and move over to where the pleasure droid is being helped up to her feet by the prostitutes who had been working to get her back online.
"Evie. It's good to see your fine metal ass back up and among the livin'.", you say as you sidle up beside her and give said metal ass a slap (hurting your hand more than anything with the action), "Any permanent damage? If ya ain't sure, I'd be happy to give ya another test ride, yeah?"
Evie looks to you and smiles to you, perhaps with something akin to gratitude and affection (in so much as an artificial intelligence could show those things), and shakes her head. "Tempted as I am by that, Captain, I'm going to have to pass right now.", she replies but leans in towards you to press a kiss upon your cheek in a surprisingly tender fashion, "But thank you. The girls here told me that we have you to thank for saving us. I also think that, if I didn't have something important to discuss with you now, I'd be letting you have more than just a ride to show my gratitude. Unfortunately, I do have something we have to discuss."
"Ain't that always the way? Somethin' always gettin' in the way of me gettin' my gratitude lay.", you sigh in mock disappointment before giving a shrug, "But, hey, that's part of bein' a handsome, dashing heroic guy. Which I am. I'm pretty sure most of the folk here can attest to that what with me savin' their skins and everything. But I'm gettin' off topic. You have somethin' to talk to me 'bout, you said? You just woke up. What could be pressin' right now?"
"I'm fairly certain I know the reason behind this attack, Captain Halloway. I'm hoping to get your help in solving the problem and ensuring something like this doesn't happen again.", she says and you look to her curiously before reaching into your jacket to retrieve the datapad you'd stolen off of the dead body of the leader and show it to Evie after unlocking it yet again.
"I'm guessin' that it has somethin' to do with this Raxasian babe here, right?", you say as you point to the picture on the datapad, "She's here, I'm guessin'? Not with the workin' girls or else she'd be out here. So she's hidin' somewhere, yeah? I'm guessin', what, lookin' to be in one of the last places folks would look for a fancy lookin' Raxasian like this, right?"
Evie simulates a sigh as she takes the datapad and nods at the picture of the purple scaled Raxasian, looking to you with a rueful grin. "You're more astute than people give you credit for, Captain Halloway."
"...Uh...thanks...I guess?", you reply to what you're choosing to take as a compliment.
"You're right. She's what this is about and she is here...but I'll let her tell you more, if you'll come with me?", Evie says to you, looking up at you expectantly.
You hesitate for a moment before replying to her. You'd just about decided that this wasn't any of your business before Evie had gotten up off her shiny metal ass. It might be smart to go with that instinct and just forget about this whole thing. But, then, Evie was asking this of you and she was a friend. Plus, she was a good lay and you tended to be soft on people who were good in bed.
Still, was this something you should stick your nose in further than you already have?
Sure, you're curious about the Raxasian and her circumstances, but you'd also like to NOT be shot at again. Should you blow this whole thing off and leave or take a chance and satisfy your curiosity?
