Chapter 4 by Sleepy7 Sleepy7

Road conditions

Not good

Tom was alert alright, unfortunately the weather was getting worse as he drove on over the next hour.

The snow was piling up. Tom slowed down as hazard lights flashed on vehicles ahead with the low visibility. A pickup truck was in the ditch. Those bastards thought they were invincible in a truck, but icy conditions and low visibility can get anyone stuck. A few miles later a car was spun out on the side of the road.

"This doesn't look good," Tom expressed to Daphne, now the only other person in the car awake.

Up ahead two vehicles with emergency lights flashing were blocking the road and directing vehicles to a side road. As they got closer they recognized the vehicles as state highway patrol cars.

"Shit, they closed the freeway," Daphne stated.

Tom pulled up next to the officer directing traffic and a gust of chill air hit him as he rolled down the window. "Excuse me, how long do you think the road will be closed?"

The officer's face was red from the cold and his hood was pulled tight over his head. "Well, the big plow got stuck and it's just too damn dangerous, we are not going to risk sending another one out with the low visibility tonight. My guess is a day or so with the rate this stuff is piling up and by the time we get more plow support from the state."

Tom thanked the officer and rolled up the window. Daphne's arms were folded across her chest and she had a sour face. The cold air and conversation with the officer stirred the others awake.

"The road is closed per that guy. The GPS should redirect us," Tom responded.

The passengers grumbled and cursed their bad luck.

The sign on the offramp indicated they were headed towards Tranquil Valley, home of the State Fair Butter sculpture Champion 1982.

"Well that sign needs updating," Daphne muttered out loud. "Let's hope we can find another route, I don't want to wait this out in the Butter Sculpture capital of nowheresville."

The GPS prompted them to continue south. Tom stopped briefly at a service station to fuel up, let the passengers use the bathroom, and stretch. Chad wisely took the opportunity to stock up on more snacks.

Everyone got back in the van shivering as no one had the forethought to pack arctic parkas, instead they all had light jackets with their intended destination of somewhere warm.

Tom tried not to notice Daphne's rock hard nipples straining against the fabric of her shirt through her jacket.

Chad switched Tom as the driver, Angie came up to the front passenger seat, Jo and Tom took the middle row due to their height, and Daphne took the way back.

Onward
