Chapter 23
by Manbear
Is our young Doctor able to live up to his new resolution?
Nope, a late night search
Dear Sir Williard,
It is now sometime in the pre-dawn hours and I sit at my desk unable to sleep. It seems that I have sunk yet another notch on the scale of morality. Until last night, I hope you have noticed, I have been content to stay in my chambers awaiting the nighttime liaisons with Miss Peach and her mother. It is a small thing, a straw to cling to in a tempest, but a distinction that I prided myself on. No man can dispute that these women had willingly made their way to my rooms and as such must share in the responsibility for the immorality that followed. I suppose that because of my long sojourn with Hunter, Lady Peach and her pretty daughter decided to give me a break for the night, but I had been looking forward to teaching Miss Peach what her mother had shared with me the night before. It is just well, I tried to console myself as I prepared for bed, however, those thoughts of Miss Peach on her hands and knees before me became more and more intrusive until I could stand them no longer.
I knew approximately where Miss Peach's room was located in the great mansion, Miss Peach had pointed out the hallway that led to her chambers in the initial tour of the house. As I made my way through the nighttime hallways, I wondered how I would know which door to knock on once I got into the right general vicinity. I should have turned back when I realized how improper my late-night prowling would appear to any of the many inhabitants of the Peach household. What could I say I say to defend my actions if (for example) Hunter found me slipping into his sister's room in the darkest hours of the night? How could I even begin to explain my presence if it were Miss Amber who happened to hear me skulking about in the hallway?
It was at that moment that an even more troubling thought intruded into my thoughts. How would I react if I found that innocent maiden standing before me in shocked horror at the sight of a man invading the sanctuary of her domain? I would like to report my Lord, that I was confident that I'd be able to resist this new temptation, but inflamed as I was at the time with thoughts of sating my lusts between the soft thighs of any young maid, I was not at all deterred by the potential disaster that could unfold. In fact Sir Williard, as I approached the rooms where I suspected the two lovely daughters lay slumbering, I half-hoped that I might stumble into Miss Amber's chamber and find her sleeping in her bed like a fairy-tale princess in her high tower.
Please believe me Sir Williard, that I write this with great shame. However as I have oft stated, in the interest of science this letter will detail - to the best of my ability - every thought and action, no matter how repugnant I find them to be. How can the good citizens of our Empire know the risks that afflict each and every one of the colonists that make their way to this beautiful planet if we hide the truth in the name of propriety? Last night I was so filled with desire that fear I would have taken whichever female that I stumbled across in my hunt, a Hindustani maid rising to begin her morning duties, Miss Peach the original target of my quest or even the shy Miss Amber who after the first night by my side had been avoiding me with studied intent.
And so, I found the four doors that I believed to lead to the rooms belonging to the three children of the Peach family estate, behind three of these four doors the next generation of the Peach family lay sleeping. As I had feared there was no indication which of these doors led to the occupant behind. You might think, Sir Williard that this would be enough to bring me to my senses and send me back to my suite, but instead I chose a door at random and silently turned the handle...
Whose door does Doctor Baxter crack open?
A Colonial's Life on Rajah-4
Being a most shameful account of a troubled time
The adventures of a group of colonists and traders on Rajah-4, a planet conquered and owned by the East Orion Trading Company.
